Default Blacktop Zetec - when to change t/belt?

I always thought zetec engines (black or silver top) needed belt changed at 36k however just got a W plate black top 2.0 Mondy and Ford dealer say it doesnt need changed till 100k? Car just turned 90k.

I know the wee zetec Fiesta's dont need a belt done till 100k but they are a different engine?

Any advice welcome cheers

your ford dealer speaks the truth.

however, i personally wouldn't leave a belt that long. personal choice though. i've known people have a timing belt go a few k before they are due then i've known people do 140k without having one changed and had no problems (more luck than anything i think!)

Yeh the timing belt is due to be changed every 10 years or 100.000 mile. I did the wifes fiesta at the begining of this year.

100k Ford say but over on FFOC belts known to go from 60-70k. Ain't the belts that are at fault its the tensioners. They fail before the belt does. So I'd change that ASAP if I was you!!

best time is shortly before it breaks,
seriously but its 100k,
but if you dont know the history i always recommend getting it changes asap,
even if it is a little under recommended guide

No way would I ever let a belt go that long, I wouldn't personally let a belt go over 35K, or 3 years, vaux used to say 80,000 on some of theirs but changed to 40,000 after warranty claims, it's a marketing ploy nothing more, if a engines nearing 100,000 and the belt goes bang along with your wallet, a lot would just scrap the by now older car and get another.
Done plenty of snappies way before their time esp V6 vaux's.
