Moved into a new house and the previous owners have left all there old junk up there. Can they legally leave it up there like that or can I force them to remove it ?

I'm pretty sure it's up the last owner to leave the house in a habitable state. All rubbish, unwanted furniture ETC must be removed unless the new buyer requests it be left. My granddads just bought a property to rent out and the previous owner left wardrobes, bed bases etc in the house and home rubble on the driveway and refused to move them saying they were sold with the house and my grandads reponcibility. Quick phone call to his solicitor and the chap is being made to remove it all.

Trouble is peeps tbh with Garys health problems I'm sure he doesn't really need to be lugging stuff outta the loft down the stairs and dumping in a skip......

God luck Gaz hope the solicitor sorts you out.

Hi mate,I'm sure when I bought my last house I had to get a list from the owners to say exactly what they were and weren't leaving, even down to lightbulbs, plants in garden etc etc.but it didn't mention the state of what the house should be left in.I'd say go through it all as one mans junk is another mans treasure!!you sometimes find some nice stuff too,in my last house we found loads of old black and White photos etc, nothing saucy though!! Funny thing was in the kitchen in my last place I found a load of old pots and pans, proper burnt fucked up ones which I stuck in a black bag to throw out. the cheeky cunt previous owners turned up the next night asking to come in as they hadn't had a chance to clear it all up and did I still have their pans!!fuck me,I'd have been to embarrassed to ever go back to pick them up,tight cunts!!!!

I've read something like this before where somebody bought a house with junk in the loft and found a picture that was worth quiet a bit , got in touch with there solicitor and he said that you bought the house so anything in there at the time then becomes your property so i guess like wise the junk becomes yours too im afraid .

True.
Hes left more in the house than he was contracted to do & as soon as you move in its declared habitable. Nasty thing to do but im sure their is nothing that can be done.

Just got to do a few copies and they will be available on line.

Right I've decided that I'm going to empty the loft with a few local mates help,I can't see us getting anywhere with the previous owners. Thanks to all those who've offered help on here, I really appreciate it but I've got it sorted now thanks chaps. If I find any "speciallity publictions" I'll save them for you Neil LOL
