True but the argument cancels itself out IMO. Whilst the old generation had heavier balls, players kicking you and lesser ref protection/older style game, the new players of this era have much higher fitness level, science in the game and not the drinking culture of the past. You could also argue that overall, players technique is better today also.

Both Maradonna and C Ronaldo would struggle for various reason in each other's era. Ronaldo, Messi, Rooney or the stars of today haven't finished yet so its unfair to compare v retired players anyway. We'll have to wait and see.

Good point, To be honest messis showed glimpses of brilliance yesterday but he was not 10% of the Maradona clips ive seen.

messi also has some class players around him in this argentine side
the team maradona won the world cup with was quite average in comparison

Also don't forget the clips shown on Youtbe or by say the BBC when an Argentina game is on (like the England great goal) are not how he played 24/7, just as Messi is sometimes off form.

United beat Barcelona in the final of European cup winners cup when they had Maradona, Bryan Robson was the one who stood out that day. Both great players but I'd take Luis Ronaldo in prime over both but then again he is my era, Maradona isn't so maybe we can't have a full opinion like Rod etc can.
