why not put a switch inside the car and use it when necessary. Take the fan swith wires off the sensor and join them to a manual switch inside the car.

Run a relay from after the ing with the switch to turn on before this
Or you will forget and drain the battery

Very Bad idea, but simply bridge the connections that go onto the switch with thick wire.

i would put it on a switch with a relay easy to do take you 10 mins or you could have problems drove mine back from telfod not so long ago got all the way back thought ill put me fans on to cool the engine about 5 mins from my house, pulled in to my village and loads of smoke in the car had a look and it had melted my wiring under the dash and that was double 20amp wire

if the switch is wired up as it should be there will be no problems. you dont need to wire up a relay as the car all ready has one!! wire the switch up to "bridge the gap" of the fan switch on the side of the stat housing.

but more to the point why on earth do you want to put your fan on a switch??

Simple switch in the cab mate, run it from you temp switch on radiator etc. but I would fuse it tbh.
Ive just done it on my car as it gets hot in traffic situations.

I'd say you've got more problems then. Does the fan cut in and out as normal? If it does, and its still overheating then i'd say something else is fucked, i.e. waterpump or blocked rad or something.

I had my fan on a switch in my old S2 and tbh, it was the best mod on the car!

In traffic on a warm day the temp would naturally creep up, fan switch was a godsend a few times.

As Rich suggested, it would be worth sorting the rest of your cooling system before wiring the fan to run permanently. Give it a good flush, change the thermostat and put good quality coolant in it.

If you do want more control over your fan, have it switched and use an illuminating switch - as, if you're anything like me you will at some point forget to turn it on/off!

Its not a good idea to run the fans constantly because

1: they were not designed to do that
2: eventually the fans will burn themselves out
3: the wiring will get hot and melt
4: the fans use power from the engine whilst running

if you are having overheating problems find the root cause and sort it out its better in the long run than doing the quick fix (bodge)

There's your problem then.

Seriously, my RST never used to overheat. Fix it properly.

New STANDARD rad
82° Thermostat
Fresh Coolant
Fix the fan.

Job done.

LMAO! No wonder it overheats then!

I have a fan switch on mine with 3 positions, one so it comes on with the thermostat, one so it stays on constant and one with it off altogether. It's so I can run the fan prior to a sprint run, then switch it off altogether for the run.
