As Rich suggested, it would be worth sorting the rest of your cooling system before wiring the fan to run permanently. Give it a good flush, change the thermostat and put good quality coolant in it.

If you do want more control over your fan, have it switched and use an illuminating switch - as, if you're anything like me you will at some point forget to turn it on/off!
