Re-shelling
Im thinking of re shelling a car what is the proper way to do it so they the log books all match up and the DVLA and old bill are happy that thecar is not a ringer.
I own both cars and have log books for both.
any help or tips well appreciated.
Cheers,
Phil

just use the new shells reg and v5 chage everything over send the new v5 off with any change of details but the only real change would be a engine size ?? or colour if you've resprayed new shell to that of what is on v5

believe it or not you used to legally be able to swop ids on vehicles if enough parts of the donor vehicle was used it was back in the days when cut n shuts were less frowned upon if done properly it came about when if you were using the rear of one car and front of another and both ends had vin numbers on they obviously would not match so you could use the vin number of the other vehicle for both ends, nowadays it will get q plated tho and the chassis number has to be removed entirely.
also changing the chassis number by cutting and welding the number in isnt as easy as it sounds to get away with, have you ever seen the police xray a chassis number? i have and the weld no matter how well ground shows up like a sore thumb!
i dont see why you had trouble changing your engine from 1.6 to 2 litre, when i did my escort van i changed engine, fuel type, colour and overall weight just filled in the appropriate parts of the logbook sent it away and recieved it back changed with a letter thanking me for doing so and some info on my van now being in a different taxation class

When I did mine I got bad info off the DVLA they told me to have the owner at the time mark it as scrapped, luckily he didn't as I had to take it to Newbury to be checked I was informed that I should just apply for the log book.
Once I had that I just had to get the engine number changed and that was pretty painless.

[quote=johnandhissaffy;4812121]yh it was because the engine number i didnt know where it was so was putting down a totally wrong number but was a pain in the ass as you need papers from proper garages saying its been done proply and they charge
my insurance said i needed it certified from a proper garage too but fortunatley i run one so cost me fook all!
