if its been built properly and u fitted a decent engine into it then who cares if its genuine or not!!! ok to some people it does but if its got the engine to back it up would be a cool car to have!!!
Least its not just a standard 1.6 either!!
"It was originally fitted with a Ford Escort XR3 Turbo Charged 1600cc Ford Motorsport prepared engine"

maybe a real one costs about £1,000,000 & you can get a really nice replica for about £50000 . It will do all the real one does sometimes better in this case its an epic fail but there are some really nice ones out there.

Went to buy a GT40 replica once with my dad - really nice with proper 302V8 running Webbers - sitting in a managed classic car storage facility in Knightsbridge. It was so small - my dad got in and had a mini-panic attack because it's so claustrophobic - to get your legs under the wheel you have to straighten them and slide them under the dash and wheel - like getting into a coffin from the end. He hated it and didn't even start the engine. End of a boyhood dream!

Yeah I grasp the cost implications, I just don't 'get' why someone would want one. It's the same with Lambo, or Ferrari copies. Those in the know (I.e the people you're out to impress) will be able to spot a copy a mile off. The only people you'll fool are those who know jack shit about cars.

Fair enough if that's what rocks your boat.
Personally I would have it to make me feel good. To have it sitting in the driveway and the occassional run out would give me an awesome feeling.
I couldn't give a monkeys about trying to impress anyone else.

I dont buy cars to impress anyone except myself I like the shape of those cars they are from my era so personally a replica GT40 could well have been on my short list 30 years ago. If you buy a car to impress people thats rather sad, my cars for me & i developed it for me & I really dont car if other dont like it . Faced with a Corsa or a Ferrari my Missus & many like here would chose the Corsa & thats a fact, well provided the Corsa was also red. We dont all view the status of cars in the same way.

I would suggest that there is an element of your personality, your competitive side, that gets a sense of satisfaction from the attention your car receives. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that - but to claim that the only reason you buy a car is for your own satisfaction is a slight exaggeration
I'd wager that there's not a person on here who doesn't get a kick out of someone checking their car out.

I don't see the problem with replica GT40's if that's what floats people's boats.
There are three categories for replicas as far as I'm concerned. Two are acceptable one isn't.
Category 1 (acceptable)
Decent replicas of very rare and uber-expensive cars that people may want, but even if they could afford one, they'd probably buy something else, go generally only ther uber-rich and very fortunate have them.
Category 2 (unacceptable)
Very poor replicas of cars that fool nobody with half a clue and that if you stopped wasting your money on soft drugs and building shite like that you'd probably be able to afford anyway.
Category 3 (acceptable)
Simply adding a few styling parts from a top end model to your lower model to make it look like the cars above. Mr. 17 year old should feel comfortable freshening up the appearance of his 1.6 LX to look like a GTi/RS2000. Just don't badge it up as one.
All of the above is purely in my opinion of course!
