Mate that breaks my heart, I have a boxer also.We love them they dont have or at least mine doesnt have any road sense, my front door leads onto a busy road so I totally know where your coming from as he has got out once before..
I hope he makes a full recovery, just a terrible accident dont blame yourself or anyone. fingers crossed for him
ps anyone who knows boxers, well they are the most loveable dogs you could meet, mines is scarded of his own shadow.
Id be happy to chip in with everyone to help

Yeah it's the dogs fault... But the driver must be a right cunt to not stop and offer assistance and help so I can see why feel people so strongly and feel he should be shot.

As Benni said, its not the fact the driver hit the dog, its their actions AFTER the incident that got my blood boiling, and made me say what i did.
The LEAST you can do is go and see if the dog is ok and say your awfully sorry etc etc, not just have a peek and shoot off
Hope you get good news today, and let us all know how hes doing

sorry to hear this - same thing happened to me - with my 12 yr old Husky- bobo - someone came to look at a car on my drive - now I always open and close gate onto road - guy took car for a test drive - and like a twat - I didnt shut gates straight away but stood nattering on the drive - sods law - someone walking past on otherside of the road witha dog - bobo being him - decides to go over and check it out - when he was smacked by a pick up truck... its the worst noise ever - if you havent heard it. guy stopped and was gutted...broke his back and like you he had a go at me - just shock -as I tried to calm him and pick him up...straight to vets where they did an anal test to see if he had feelings in his back end - but no go and had to put him down there and then..devastateds not the word - I rawed my fooking eyes out in the vets.. and for days after......still never really got over it - as I feel I let him down....
hopefully they can sort him out as they do miracles in them vets..... fingers crossed for you mate...

We are back home after a very long day. Got the call to say insurance had agreed to sort out the op, and to transfer him to Bishop Auckland to a proper orthopaedic veterinary hospital.
Then on the way, insurance rang to ask how it happened as underwriter was asking? Then after we had dropped him off on way home, insurance rang back to say they were NOT going to pay for the operation, because it was our fault he got out of the house... in their words " he was not in a secure place" Well obviously any dog that escapes from a house isnt secure, we know that, which is why there was an ACCIDENT.
So we had to tell vet we cant get operation done, as quite simply cant afford it. It doesnt mean he wont fix, but it does mean hes going to have to spend the next 6 weeks in permanent cage rest, on tramadol painkillers.
Hes still very scared obviously in lots of pain, im also scared of him biting me due to yesterday. So we have to get a muzzle for him until his pain goes, to make me feel at ease and so he cant try to bite me if its sore to get him out of cage.
So basically - hes gotta heal on his own, which will result in arthritis in later age and hes got a bad month ahead of him.
Feel exhausted mentally, and have cancelled the insurance and going elsewhere as i am furious at the ridiculous terms and conditions, the past 24 hours have cost Ł550 I cant believe how bloody expensive the vets are!

A dog doesnt kno the green cross code so how can it be the dogs fault??
if the driver wasn't speeding then it was a tragic accident, but for the driver just to drive away then it does show a sign of guilt and makes them out to be a prick

Absolute nightmare sarah, poor dog, you and dicko are going to have your work cut out. vets bills are outrageous, but wouldnt you think there would be vets that would want to do it cheap to stop the dog feeling pain, surely not all vets get into it because of the money aspect, surely some do it for the love of animals and to help ease there pain.

the vet said its a really big job to repair with a pin to stabilise his pelvis, hence the cost, as it takes a long time to do, but he also said he had his age on his side and because he was so young it should heal nicely with rest.
Im so nervous about getting him in and out of his cage its unreal.

I know Fiddy - just gonna muzzle him for the next few weeks when we are getting him out of his cage - for both our benefits.
Just really do feel for the poor thing, its absolutely horrendous

..BS Motorsport..
pet insurance is absolute horse shit, we had it for our bulldog, he got his eye operated on and they said that any further claims on that eye will not be honoured!! Like having car insurance and after youve had a wing on they'll never do another?? Load of shit, told them where to stick it.
Good news for Murphy, at least hes gonna make it through, albeit through a lot of heart ache for you two I should imagine. Hope the selfish bitch that knocked him over cant sleep cos of it, no morals some people.

Started reading this thread and must admit to getting more upset and worried as time went on , my thoughts are with you and your family through it all .

Sorry to hear about the insurance company dicking you about
Real shame that you've both come out worse for ware. With regards to not having the op at the vets, is he likely to make a full recovery with proper rest and medication then?
Any more news on the driver? If you can find out who she is perhaps you can write to her and ask her to contribute towards the costs involved in the operation.
Big-Dan.
