Default buying a car from a breakers (no keys) advice...

Been offered a really good deal on a car from a breakers but its got no keys.

Its a vw golf 2001 what would I be looking at getting the locks done?

Would I need a new iginition and all door locks or can they cut a blade for the current locks?

Just want to price it up before I go buy it.

You could try a locksmith that specialises in car security, they may be able to cut a key for you but you then have to get the keys programmed.

The only other alternative is to get a couple of keys from VW. You will have to go to the parts dept with the V5 (when you get it) and another form of id. It may take a few days to arrive (can't remember how long we took to get them in) and then you still have to get them programmed.

I'd find out the cost of new keys before purchasing if I were you.

I wanted a new remote key for my 2004 focus and to buy the new key from Ford and have it programmed to the car was the best part of Ł150 + vat ....

don't go to VW, there is loads of auto locksmiths (some mobile) that can do all you need.
