hello all my wife has a mk5 fiesta with the engine that was designed by ford and yamaha, 1.3..
now i was going to change the cambelt and have been to EK Brakes who told me it doesent have a timming belt it has a timming chain, ive checked the engine number with the engine number from EK Brakes and they are the same , do these chains last the life of the car ?

If so it's got a timing belt.
Like any black-top zetec the tappets need adjusting every 95000 miles or so as it hasn't got hydraulic ones.

yamaha engine is the 1.25 or 1.4 these have belt's the 1.3 OHV / HCS engine has a chain and as above just check the valve clearances and change the oil and it'll last.
but check which engine you have as i'm not sure which you mean i have heard some people call the 1.25 a 1.3 before.

i say kent engine, as that is what the endura e basically is and therefore what the rocam basically is.
fords like to confuse things (as well as themselves probably)

they renamed the 1.3 rocam as the series name and duratec as the public name, and yes they come on the mk6 why i have no idea.
and yes your right the 1.6 in the street/sports are rocams, again why they didnt use the zetec 1.6 engine is beyound me, the 8v makes it drink more petrol which imo was noticable, i did hear the zetec se 1,6 fouled on the bulk head

From Wikipedia :
In 2000, Ford of Brazil developed an improved version of the Endura-E engine, to compete with the classic Volkswagen AP engines. Basically, the Endura-E received a completely new aluminum head, with much less restrictive intake and exhaust, SOHC and peripheral improvements. Its camshaft is driven by a chain. As a result, this engine exhibits rougher behaviour, producing more vibration and noise. On the other hand, it has a superb torque output thanks to the addition of the Rocam (rollerfinger camshaft) feature.
In 2003, the Zetec-Rocam engine was introduced in Europe, but labeled as Duratec 8v, for the SportKa and StreetKa models. Later a 1.3 L version was also released as an option for the standard model, but the European versions of the engine are produced in the South Africa plant.
So the Rocam engine comes from Brazil!

the early engines have the cam in the block, over head valves and pushrods. as seen in mk1/2 escorts, early ka's and earlier fiestas. the rocam came out in about 2003 and has 1 overhead camshaft in the head and hydraulic tappets. came in 1.3 and 1.6. the engine in the picture is a rocam, is chain driven and it will last the lifetime of the engine so do's not need changing. much prefer the 1.25 zetec's though
so the only thing it has in common with the earlier one is the block.

some brilliant info here lads, i was told it was the yamaha engine when i bought it from a main dealer as well, but funny thing is when i took the plugs out they said ngk and ford on them so thats another reason i thought it was the 1.25 engine ? i also could not work out how it has hydrolic lifters ? but now i do
