the early engines have the cam in the block,over head valves and pushrods. as seen in mk1/2 escorts,early ka's and earlier fiestas. the rocam came out in about 2003 and has 1 overhead camshaft in the head and hydraulic tappets. came in 1.3 and 1.6. the engine in the picture is a rocam, is chain driven and it will last the lifetime of the engine so do's not need changing. much prefer the 1.25 zetec's though

so the only thing it has in common with the earlier one is the block.
