Default CRB checks question

a mate of mine is looking to apply for a job in a council as a mechanical / electrical CAD technician, but because it will be working on school buildings they are saying he needs a CRB check. the job would not entail working with children, or having any contact with children.

he has a police caution from 4 yrs ago for affray, and another from 3 years ago for possession of class A's. but no other criminal record.

would these 2 cautions be enough to get him rejected from the job (he would admit them on the application form in the first place)

please no troll redneck answers or "what a fooking twat he should be locked away from kids" answers please, only reply if you have sensible relevant legal knowledge!

i just thought people on here will have convictions who have applied for jobs.

my cousin has a caution for affray but has successfully got jobs with CRB checks, but they didnt involve schools (he works in power station shutdowns testing welds)

They will show on the CRB but its up to the employer as to whether they see them to be relevant to the position he's applying for.

Just as a note I have just had a CRB check and can confirm Fixed Penaltes dont show on them, I had one under the malicious communications act and it hasnt shown

i have a crb paper in front of me and it shows the following:

your name
dob
place of birth etc
date of issue
position appied for
employer
counter signatory
registered body of counter signatory
police record for convictions, cautions, reprimans and warnings
info from the 142 esucation act
isa childrens barred list
isa vunerable adults list
other relevant info (police descretion
enhanced disclosure for sections 113b - 116 of the police act 1997

so that gives you an idea of what they will get back

you can apply for ome yourself if you pay for it, but they also send a copy to the person who's asked for it if it's the employer so you can't say "i've not got that on the sheet" because they've got the same copy

ok ta, so it would be down to the employer. they would probably think drugs/violence cautions innappropriate for someone to be working on schools, even though they'd never be working with any kids.

i heard somewhere that poilce cautions are on record for ever, so this would mean 'slap on the wrist cautions' of this type over minor offences will fook some people up for life - jobswise.

The CRB check will show up all records...cautions and convictions!

My CRB check as i have to have one in my job, when it was done showed up a caution i received when i was younger but this has now elapsed 5 years and should be off my record .. i was told my the police at the time it would stay for 5 years so that should be long gone now!!

Depending on how long ago the cautions were, will determine if they will employ him! If they were years ago, they may look and think it was a long time ago and go with him, but they might also look and think its not worth the risk!

We do a lot of CRB checks here, and majority of the time unless child related incidents are on a record we will take them on! :thumb: no harm in trying anyway!

Are the employer paying for the check...? currently they are sitting at about Ł60, he has nothing to lose if they are paying...!

there is also the thing about it being up to the descrition of the police department that made the arrest etc, so if they let you off and don't put it on the list as a flag then it might not come up

depends on the copper who's nicked you though, i'm sure my last alrercation will be on the list as the guy who was manhandling the evidence dropped it on his foot
