Default Stolen car - insured!

There was a thread a couple of days ago about askmid.

It got me thinking and i checked the plate from my impreza that was stolen. It comes up as insured even though ive had a pay out and its been decleared a total lose! Does this mean someone might have bought it and insured it? How is this possible and what the best thing to do? Phone the old bill?

About 4 months.

The police should have been in contact with me surely if it was recovered? They told me thats what would happen and that it was up to me to let the insurance company know.

I checked a car I was looking to buy in a salvage yard and that was still insured, presume it takes a while to take them off the list

It no doubt is out of date, not unusual, nearly as bad DVLA, a car I taxed, disabled car tax 6 months ago is still showing as untaxed, despite this being done in a DVLA office in Norwich, by the manager!!

Is this not just because its a CAT C or CAT D loss which has been put back on the road.

The insurance is cancelled on a stolen car because the insurance company are still liable if the person who stole the car has as crash. So bell told me.

There is a new car on my policy though so the car is definetey not insured by myself.

Rs Grant, if it is on the road i want to know who has it on the road as the police never contacted me to say it was recovered! My point being that it may be the git that stole it or he has sold it without the V5 and someone else has insured it.

Ahhhhh right sorry, never read it properly.. didn't realise that you were never told the car had been recovered. Although, if you're getting paid out and the car is recovered after a settlement has been agreed between you and insurance company then is there a 'legal' need to notify you??

Cheers,
Grant

I dont know that there is, as the V5 is signed over to them, so if the car is found it belongs to them as they have effectively bought it. It was just the fact the police said i would be notified and they never took my insurance details. Obviously they could have found them out anyway.

Might give the police station a ring on my lunch break and ask them what they think.
