Default vito gearbox

heres a strange one, i've got a 54 plate 109cdi vito with 245k lol it is a taxi tho, the clutch was changed at 208k first time pretty good ay, but about 10k miles the reverse gear occassionally jumped out of gear and i gradually got worse. now i have to physically hold it in reverse, let the clutch up very slowly til i hear it 'pop' in then again gingerly reverse however it still can jump tho. i rang mercedes and they said they'd never heard of that and quoted me over 2k to SUPPLY a new gearbox. anyone ever heard of this and whether i could just get the reverse syncro fixed as the forward gears are faultless and a full referb is 1k!! advice please

I have the older 108cdi and have allways been worried about the box , but after speaking to a commercial fitter from merc he told me alot of problems are caused by the spacer bush under the selector arm or one of the cables is on its way out or stretched . might be worth checking to see if you can push it into reverse on the selector arm (if you havent allready) before replacing anything.

i had a few problems with my 02 plate vito going into reverse , i had a quick scout round the net and found out how to adjust the cable linkage and sorted it out myself ,on mine they are behind the ashtray so quite easy to do

dual mass flywheel

need changing along with the clutch so it's about a grand for that, see if they changed it with the clutch at 240k

also the selectors are right pigs, might only take a few minutes to adjust, but you need to have a goot bloke coming out to do the job as some numpties will take forever

window regulators also pack up and even though they don't look sided, they are, that's another 3 hours job you can do in 20 minutes

Not all DMF's need changing depends if its worn or not but i can see your point.

Gearcables they arent that bad to adjust worst bit is fitting a set to a vito

window regs defo agree, the spindle in the motor is plastic and snaps off, and there are so simple to change
