Come on then chaps. Who else broke down on the way to and from Ford Fair this year?
You might have seen my Red Series 2 on the hard shoulder in various spots along the M40 and M42 on the way up.
And in the entrance to a farm just outside Banbury on the way home.
Saw a couple off Saffs and a Fiesta RS Turbo being recoverd so I wasn't alone.

Much to my amazement, we got all the way there and all the way back virtually without incident.
My heatshield thats attached to the underside of my bonnet broke and scratched my slam-panel to shit, had to stop and sort that out, but apart from that was all cool.

Mine did over 600 miles on Sunday and drove mint all day - sat in the traffic jam outside for about 80 mins and the temp didn't get above half way, not bad for a 23 year old sierra.

Believe me, the standard of work in my car is FAR FAR higher than MOST cars I see on a day-to-day basis worked on by big-name tuners. The difference between a PROPER DIY'd car and a cheque-book tuned one is the fact that you can put a SERIOUS amount of time into fabbing bits yourself, far beyond what anyone could pay someone to do.
I really have taken offence to that remark.
I went up in my brothers mk1 fiesta. Broke down on the way there and just as we got there. Alternator was knackered. Bought one while we was there, fitted it up on the stand, drove it back without fault. Not bad for a 27 year old car
That goes down in history and THE most ignorant comment I have EVER read.

My 4be twincam ran faultlessly all the way there and back @ motorway speeds. Sat in the traffic, no problem. And only used less than half a tank of fuel all the way from Kent and back. The cabriolet had a slight water loss problem around junction 13 of the M1, but that was a simple perished heater hose which was remedied in about 2 minutes, including refilling the header tank. Not bad for a 23 year old car IMO which has not been touched under the bonnet except for "tarting up". New set of Roose black water hoses to be on order over the winter while it is laid up though, just in case.
well mine broke down on the way there .and no its not a diy job as i own www.stocktonautocentre.com .just the head gasket let go .....
I was waiting in the traffic coming in. Fort turn car off for a bit, went to start it couldnt hear the fuel pump, looked under the dashs one of the wires had come apart for the immoblizer
felt like a right dick! and i had the nice bird in car behind

also nurburgring,
preperation is the key, do it right once, it and its fine
and my labour bill is pretty much ZERO
DIY is the way to go
I can feel your embarrassment from here

Plus its so much better to do it your self! iv spent all day today in the drizerling rain sorting mine myself! i couldnt odds the mettering unit packing up! but she back out on the streets eating saxo's!
A bit like when we did our house up, the only jobs that are sub-standard are the ones we paid someone to do. Like the guy that screwed the pelmets on the cupboards through the inside of the cupboard (I'd have hidden the screws) and the guy that cut the worktop with the cooker on the piss to cover up the fact that he fucked it up. So don't talk to me about the PROPER trades doing things properly.
i did the 400 mile round trip and a few goes up the 0-60 5.04 secs with no failures or break downs was over the moon with that.
p-s my car is a diy built and mapped

I went up in my mates 4x4 saph and on the way there it managed to blow a pipe fitting out of thermostat housing and shoot coolant out everywhere, let it cool down whacked it back in and filled back up and perfect... he even done a 0-60 and we got home.
with a old ford carry a few select tools and 5l coolant and 5l oil sorted!
