Angry fu*king insurance companies

I have a 328 sport that i purchased in July i took my insurance out with Elephant for a heafty sum of £2k (328 sport at 19 hey), the car suffered a bit of a bump in November so is now sat in my car garage slowely being restored. In the mean time i recently purchased an xr2i as a run around my insurance dropped to a more sensible £900. I recieved an email today saying that theres has been a mistake and put my gender down as female, this has now been changed but a slight increase as occured of £6538 What the fuck is that all about. Insurance on an xr2i G reg fezza that is worth no more than £500 they want £7.5k insurance for it. I called them up because there must have been a mistake but no apparently it is perfectly fine. How the hell can insurance companies charge this much for such fiesta, i even joked with the girl on the phone you are insuring my fiesta not ferrari right. Not happy They are also saying because i filled the online form in wrong even though i had to phone the elephant up to clarify my details because i was paying monthly and blatently saying im a man they say i owe then there next monthly installment of £1890 where do stand

i can still insure the fezza for £1k and the sport for a lil under £2k (admrial) even so a hike of over £6k with elephant for being a fella is a bit OTT isnt it?

They tried the same with me on my 4be. Had a policy with them, had no problems, then they suddenly decided that I had taken the policy out with them as a female and had to pay an extra £1,300.

Unfortunately for them, I had a printout of my online form (as I always do as a backup) which proved I had it as "male". Also, all my communications were addressed to "Mr I. Southam", not "Mrs" or "Miss". I never had to pay the amount, and cancelled the policy out of point of principle as they would probably found a reason not to pay out should I have an accident anyway. Mine was paid annually though, not monthly.

I would take legal advice, even if it is CAB, and do it quickly, like tomorrow.

If not, speak to Tony @ Greenlight as he may be able to unofficially advise you.

CAB would be my first point of call but from personal experiences they are usually as useful as herpes at a gangbang. I would try and seek independant legal advice, most solicitors will offer their time for a short period and valuable knowledge free of charge and some may even go further for you.

You could also try trading standards, at the end of the day they are here as a service and a regulator so they should offer you some good advice.

Failing that jump up and down, throw your toys out the pram and shit the bed in protest until they back down.

Relatively speaking my last suggestion is nearly as crap as my others.

If you go to a solicitor, you can get a FIXED FEE INTERVIEW, this costs £5 and gives you 30 minutes advice.

Same company, so go with the other, or ask manager why sister company is so different?

admiral and elephant are the same company are they not?

mind you, admrial have been tring this trick for ever and a day, they tried to tel me i was uninsured as i was driving the car as the main driver, even though i was the policy holder which they claimed i hadn't disclosed to them

then they sent nasty letters along the lines of "you do know that it's illegal to drive with no insurance" and "we would have to disclose this information to the police should they ask" even though i told them to stick their lettersup their arse when they said they were not going to cover the car and got it insured somewhere else

Just renewed mine with elephant for about the eighth year now, other than whacking renewal up each year which always gets knocked down checking online, been great.
Hope you get it sorted.

Default UPDATE!!!!

Ok ive spoken to Elephants manager and they have admitted fault on there behalf, So i carry on paying my £100 a month. But the quote that was given of £7.5k stands correct i asked why, he replied we had 22 people who drove a xr2i/ fiesta rs turbo in 2008 take out insurance with us. 21 males and 1 women, 20 of the males claimed or had claims made against them through there own fault, the women earned another years no claims. So he said the risk of insuring your xr2i and being a man is extremly high compared to that of the women. Personally i think this is bollocks why should people pay for other peoples accidents. but hey ho looks like ill be ditching elephant at renewal time anyways. Tom

So through their fault you've got a good deal.
They're only going on risk, understandable.

Down to car and claims, hence I had a quote of £600 on my M3, and £300 on a supra twin turbo - not many supras about to be pranged..
