Train drivers need to be paid millions to cope with stuff like like.

Bet you do not know any driver not been through what you have.

In Aust they are looked after - are they there?

I was 2 minutes in front of the train that had the fatality.

The person must of been there when i went by.

The train that hit the person was my next train i was booked to drive.

The driver said that he thought it was a Guy as it was fireworks night and it didn't move. The person was holding onto the running rail with there neck over the rail.

Another train going the opposite way was asked to inspect the line and found that it was a person and not a Guy

Although i didn't see the body this time its the fact i was only 2 minutes in front and it so easily could have been me.

I feel a bit shocked this time, maybe because its so close to my last one ?

How can I say this without sounding harsh...............shame the persons head wasnt half hanging off and they could be saved as a vegetable..........any good ?

kill yourself if you want..........dont fuck someone else's life up in the process and cause a shit load of knock on effects for others who are nothing to do with your situation

N.B I am not normally this much of a heartless BASTARD normally but this affects me indirectly AT LEAST once every few months.......God knows how often for the railway staff!!

thats bad mate, id hate to be involved with something like that, i remember years ago at primary school we had 2 train drivers come in before the holidays to tell us not to mess on the tracks, they both had been through the same a few times and said it was fairly common. Not nice at all

I work on the maintainance of trains mate so really know how you feel as we must get them all cleaned up checked over and back out for service asap! and dont know if your trains have cctv but ours do and this must be downloaded and handed to transport police, so someone must check the footage there also! "not something id like to be watching pretty often i can tell you! Especially as theres got to be alot less painful ways in which to go! because speaking from experience on these things some people do survive and end up pretty mutalated and in wheelchairs etc! again mate very sorry to hear this!

Maybe it would be different if it actually happened to me.... but sitting here thinking about it I don't think it would bother me at all???

I know that sounds weird and maybe I am being naive but the person wanted to die and so they died?

If I knocked someone innocent down or hurt someone I would be distraught.

But I really don't think killing someone in a train who wanted to die would affect me?

am I a freak or does anyone else feel like that?

as I say if it happened to me then maybe it would be different?

Sorry to hear this Steve, I've known a train driver down here for many years and he's had at least 3 or 4 now!

TBH though it doesn't seem to affect him a great deal, I dont ever recall him going off the rails (pardon the pun ) when it happened! He had a pregnant lady jump infront of one of his trains and the feotus (sp) was shot out of the womg! Sick fuckers!

Different people obvisouly deal with it in different ways but it's never a nice thing to happen or hear about!

Sorry to hear about this

My brother-in-law works as a train driver and he had a near miss just recent on a un-manned crossing with a woman in her car not looking at the flashing red lights or hearing the big klaxon but then a few weeks later the same crossing a guy in a car decided to cross it and got hit by a train and killed

He has missed a number of people that have run in front of him and the worse one for him was he had to stop and make a call to a signal box and was almost sucked in by a fast train going passed (phone too close to main line) to be then told when he got to the end of his driving route his mate had just been killed in the same spot he nearly was from a train pulling him into it

Im not sure why you're upset You didnt see the person and you werent driving the train that did hit him. All these "2 minutes" and "could of"s are dwelling too much on things that arent relevant IMO

I tend to agree Lee. If in a train and someone jumps out then you can't be blamed. That's not to say the fella involved doesn't feel shite as he does, but from a personal view as you say if someone else decides to do it then that's up to them.

However, it's easy to say that not being in that position as I know if I were driving a car I'd be distraught. Sends shivers down my spine just thinking about it..........

think the fact that he saw someone actually jump out in front of a train and the body landing in front of hs train a couple of weeks ago,has something to do with it!porbably brings it all back up etc

I kinda agree with Porkie, end of the day, you can't swerve out the way like you can in a car... you're on a contant bearing and if someone chooses to place themselves in the way, its out of your control to a great extent.

Alright, you might say you can slam the brakes on, but this would possibly cause problems with your passengers.... and maybe cause serious problems with the train? I dunno, but would slamming your brakes on cause a possible de-rail situation?

That said, if you think about it for too long and get into the whole "I killed someone" thing.. then I'm sure it must put you in a pretty dark place. Is there no help/time off given to drivers who go through this?

Cheers,
Grant

Im with you on that one.

As has been said its an occupational hazard of the job.

cant say for sure untill it happens to you, and as im not a train driver im not gna know, but i dont think it would affect me.

Its happened to me before, honestly though...it never affected me...but then again i'm a heartless bastard(I guess)
When i had mine it was 5p.m on a friday night,i had another 7 hours left of my shift and after the first 5-10 seconds of the intial shock i thought to myself "bonus,i'll be out with my mates tonight"..and i was..lol
In my opinion if someone wants to take thier life, then f**k them....i won't lose any sleep over them...and its a free sick leave I.M.O.
So Porkie(Lee) you are not a freak in the slightest,i know LOADS of drivers that feel the same and they have had one(or more) one unders.
Its worse when its an accident or if its a kid, thankfully i've never had one of those.
Although i have mates that have completley lost it over a one under,so i can understand where you(cossie4i) come from.
But with this credit crunch i knew there would be more jumpers and there have been!
I'd have one tommorow, then i could have Christmas off

if someone jumps infront of you,its not like a car....200+ tons can't stop on a six pence......your are usually toast if you jump infront of a train
