Default Currys - rant on

Now my rant button is firmly switched to the ON position, i shall begin.

Bought an LG lcd tv from currys in April. In the middle of July, it started playing up, the screen was flickering and it would just go out. I took it back to the store, where they told me there was nothing I could do about it, I would need to ring the 'Tech Guys'.

So, i phoned them and gave them the symptoms and the serial number from the side of the unit. The guy on the other end of the phone said it sounds like the power supply has failed, we'll get an engineer out to you to have a look at it. I book a day off work to wait in for the engineer, he comes round, said 'its probably the power supply', takes the serial number off the side (which I have already given them), and fooks off again.

A few days later, I get a call to say that it will need to go away for repair, and they will be picking it up on the 1st August, luckily I am off work that day, and they come round and collect it.

A couple of days later, I get a call to say the TV is all fixed, and they will be dropping it off just over a week later on the 9th August, which they do. That evening when the light was on in the front room, i notice a scuff along the top of the tv and down the side. As that was saturday night, I will have to wait until monday to call them. Sunday afternoon, the screen starts flickering again

So, they get a call monday morning to take the tv away again. I wait a few days for a call back from them, and finally we agree a date of collection of the 23rd August. The TV is collected then, and they take away the power lead this time so they can test it, and also fix the damage caused previously.

Roll on a few days, and the unit is dropped off to me on the 5th September, which I had to take another day off work for. Its dropped off, minus the power lead. The delivery guys say we'll leave it with you, and get the lead out to you asap, which to be honest I'm not very happy about, but it'll have to do. They take it out of its wrapping, and surprise surprise, the damage is still there. So, I refuse delivery of it, and they take it away again for the third time.

I went straight back into the store I purchased it from, saying that I want it replaced, or my money back, as I am fed up with it. The lad there phones the 'tech guys', and surprise surprise, their computer systems are down, so no can do.

I went back in on saturday (6th), I was in there almost an hour trying to sort it out, the girl there phoned a few different numbers, and eventually got the number of who she needed to speak to, and as per typical, they don't work weekeneds.

I leave the shop rather unhappy, and go back in this morning. She rings the repair centre again, and they havent received my TV, it is not on the computer screen either. So where is my tv? I ask. 'Lost' She said

So i kick up a right fuss, and eventually after a lot of aggro, I walk out with a new television. Today I have spent almost 2 hours in Currys trying to fight it.

Now, I am considering writing to the managing director of currys, explaining to him that its been over 7 weeks since the fault was originally reported, and it was no where near being fixed. I have taken 2 days off work (costing me £70 a day), driven to the shop and back 5 times (each round trip is 15 miles), and I have been unable to watch the Sky TV I am paying for (£39 a month).

What do you reckon my chances are of getting some compo out of them? Or am i 'pissing into the wind'?

Sorry for the long read, just needed to get it out of my system

Rant button set to OFF.

Thats better

kick up a fuss in the store

but i would serious spek to the manager first in the store and tell him what's what in as calm a voice as you can muster

then, if they don't give you a new telly with free 5 year warranty/stand/set up/delivery/etc then kick it up another level

what you really want is the money back ffor the telly, plus your incooured expenses for having the days off when they said they'd put it right, but you are wiling to settle for the other freebe stuff IF it's not up to the shonky standards they have already set themselves with the telly ou had the problems with

it is the store who deals with the first year policies so they need to sort it

(but don't start swearing as you will get escorted out by security and possibly make small children cry, been there, done that with the extrernal hard drive,at pc world, but to be honest, it was worth seeing the guy behind the counter sweating buckets and his hands wobbling as he tried to press buttons on the keyboard to call up the details but that was for £80 i could have done without, your telly isgoing to cost you a few hundred so best not loose your temper too much)

so what you want to list in your letter of grivance is the 7 weeks you've been unable to watch telly including but not excuslive to the following:
your sky package @ £39/month
2 days leave from work @ £70/day
the times you have had to visit the store in person @ 6x15 miles/journey (most companies give out upto 35p/mile driven for example)
plus the incconvenience of having to have made all those journeys, the time spent making those journeys when you could have been doing something else (like enjoying watching the football on the telly)
plus the general pain in the arse it has all been
a monetary figure of £249.50 is what you are out of pocket by that you can actually calculate judging by the above (you can claim 2 months of sky as they won't give you a few days here and there, you have to pay for the whole month in advance) so you will accept a cheque for the above amount, not gift vouchers as you can't put petrol in at curry's, nor can you pay your electric or sky bills at curry's either so they would be pointless as the money has already left your pocket

or else you will be writing to their head office, their copmpaints depatment, your local mp, captain cash, mother theresa, etc to publicise the matter

it would have not come to such a turn of events had the product not been repeatedly taken back and forth and damaged in the process but you have had no other option

end it by saying that you look forward to their offer and hope that it will end in an amicable settlement in your favour or words to that efect

pissing into the wind.

Im quite sure that DSG operate a 6 week no fix then replace policy anyway, so getting a new tv from them after 6 weeks is standard practice.

Send the letter and forget it.

It will get it off your chest but they'll do nothing except, if you are lucky, acknowledge receipt.

I wasted too much of my life chasing them when the built in didgbox on a brand new telly failed. Instead of ordering a new module and at least leaving me with analogue, they had to remove it and send it away, leaving the telly completely useless in the corner of the room for weeks on end.

Just be glad you managed to get another one from them. There a bunch of fuck wits to deal with at the best of times. I'm still waiting for my hoover to be sorted out from last December - I just can't be arsed to talk to them and listen to their pathetic excuses.

4 weeks in the first year warranty, 6 weeks if you take extended warranty.

Find the head office address and send the letter there with 'Complaints department' before the address. State how much you're down by and that you would like some kind of refund for your time and sky...etc. and that you hope to hear from them soon, many thanks... blah blah. Be all nice in the letter and nice when they call. State that you'r very annoyed and unlikely to return to any of the currys group stores and will be telling your friends not to go there either unless something is done to take the bitter taste you've been left with away.

I did this for a dell laptop battery, which was replaced 24hrs after they called me (took 3 days from posting the letter). And I got a new microwave off Zanussi even though it was a local repair center that were responsible for it all and it was well out of warrenty.

JAmes.

I think you'll be pissing in the wind, im sorry to say.

I was left standing for 30mins in Currys whilst I was getting fucked about by thier employees, one of whom was supposidly looking in the stock room for my item, instead he'd gone on his break. No apologies offered to me etc etc

Sent a letter almost 2 weeks ago, not heard anything back. Still VERY pissed off by it all.

Pissing in the wind tbh matey.

I had a problem with a 3 week old dishwasher that let out the hot condensation from one of the sides and fooked 3 of my recently replace kitchen doors an units, it took me days to get through to the right people, the tech guys (tossers i prefer to call them)
One came out and told me it was fitted incorrectly and it just needed moving over a little (wtf!?!)
So he did this and left it running, then left, but to no avail it was still leaking hot condensation, i phoned the tech guy back up to ask him to come back out but he said he couldnt do anything more as it was incorrectly installed in the first place and put the phone down on me.
I phoned curry's and after a lot of shouting i managed to get through to a manager of some sort, remembering the dish washer is only 3 weeks old, they refused point blank to do anything untill the point where i told them that i was going to get my solicitor involved under the sale of goods act 1979.
Then they were my friend again and asked what i thought should be done to rectify the problem, i said "just send me a god damn new door seal" which they did and it was sorted.
So after 2 days off,1 door,2 draw fronts,1 unit carcus and a lot of agro i got a new door seal worth £6.50 which sorted it.

Then i tried for compensation for time off and "costs incured" due to being sold a faulty item in the first place and got absolutely no where in the end i had to go through my house insurance to get all replaced.

Good luck Dude,you'll need it!!!

steve.
