Hello peeps.

im after a complete single camera package that i could use at home, and record footage. Must be good in the dark, and preferably wireless.

i have no idea about CCTV, so any pointers would be great.

I bought a wired one last year and it's excellent. 2 camera's and all the bits and pieces came to just over Ł100 and provided by a mate. Then had to buy a hard drive recorder until from maplins. Got it half price for about Ł150. Was getting a lot of vandalism at a place i was working on so installed teh camera's to try and find out what was going on.

Nothing!!!!! But guess teh little s**t's saw the camera and left the place alone after that. Plus the night vision was excellent, i was amazed how well it cld see in complete darkness

recorder is only Ł99 at teh moment, bargain i'd say. not a fancy pants one but does the job. Can view all for inputs simultaneously and cut to any camera for a full screen look. Can also set movement sensor to record for set amount of time. We had 2 camera's facing away from a house and had a road in background. Can set the camera to record if ppl come in to designated area, i.e. driveway, but ignores the cars going past.

someone told me that the colour ones were useless?

i did go into maplins yesterday, but they didnt seem to have much.

Colour is ok for the day and B&W is good for night unless you have very good lighting where the cameras getting aimed at. It really depends on how good a quality and for what purpose as well.

All of mine are colour by day and B&W by night and hard wired as I didn't feel that wireless was the way to go, well for what I wanted anyway. If your doing it for prevention then get a decent dummy camera mounted up then hide the one your using elsewhere ...just be careful where its pointed as some neighbours can get arsey and paranoid that your filming there bedrooms, which can be a real insult to you is shes right minging!

I got one up in my front room. Got the housing offcer coming round later because there was a complaint by the people that it was put up to protect me from. Apparentley you need planning permission aswell

Mine are a bit of a mix and match and its been a bit of a trail and error exercise as well to get it to do what I wanted.

Go wired if you can (no interference issues) and you can always take that with you when you move. If you can live with wires partially hidden, etc. If your fitting it outside then sound is a must but it takes a bit of time getting used to it.

Axis 207w , it will email you the pictures or FTP them offsite.

No point in recording the footage to a tape, that they will steal if they break in.

Mine is pointing out my front window onto my drive way and front door, but it also shows the road and path out the front of my house.

As for recording it goes straight onto my pc. Need a lot of spare space though. Edit it in windows movie maker, send the shorted clip to whoever needs to see it. ie. mr plod.

didn't do much though. Guy strangled a kid, police came round arrested him then let him off without charge. All visible on the camera

I am a burglar. I see you have wifi camera.

I pick up your wifi signal. I work out where the camera is covering the area.

I avoid the area that the camera is covered and I break in and get away without being seeen on cctv!

Move the camera down so it doesn't show the road & path and the people who is coming round to check will let you off.

I see what you mean about the burgler. Coucil guy said i can't use it, no suprise there. Going to leave it in place(but no on) until i can get permission to use it.
Great way to stop people doing things. Last night people from over the back were at the front of my house about to do something when i herd one shout don't the camears still there.

Only business needs planning permission & Data protection. Nothing for normal home.

It couldn't be used as it records the road and the path. Which you need permission for. Not to worry though i got the forms comming through. Have forwared a link to the site for the guy. I'm not going to be living here to much longer anyways but trying to sell with caravans out the back not going to be easy

wireless is shit, unless you spend 1k plus, you will get interfearane(sp) from other users of video senders. For the sake of a bit of wire you will get a much better trouble free picture.

thats why you put a dvr hidden, or in a metal cabinet somewhere out the way. And don't use your PC to record on. Also anyone using CCTV for in house protection would be better getting an intruder alarm first. One they set this off they won't have time to look for a DVR.

A decent dvr like say dedicated micros, good stuff , but for night your best going for black and white as already said, also i use cameras that are colour at day and black and white at night, so best of both worlds but again not the cheapest thing in the world, the dvr just input ip address etc etc from there its not to hard to remote view if you have the cash

Again i would only recommend hard wired stuff.
