Steve,

you KNOW that a standard box won't last.....you need a decent box.

With the trackday approaching fast a T5 will do nicely IMO

You have exceeded Quaifes rating of that gearset by about 200hp

That box PollyX is running sounds good tbh

My mates 3 door apparenty runs the box out of Rainbirds old Saph, dead standard iirc

Its since spent years in a 400hp 420lb ft 3 door being abused and has never missed a beat. Ok it whines like a straight cut now but it still works.

IF you can find a half decent T5 Dingy and you turn the power down a little then it should hold together, it might even be better than that Quaife you had in there

Its how the torque is delivered that breaks things.

Get karl to slow the torque curve a touch.. do you run a hydraulic clutch?

If you do you could put an inline valve in to cushion the gearchange.

with the gas on i've hit 550ftlb without breaking the box.

A friend of mine used standard T5 for 2 years, using semi-slick tires and 677hp and NO problems whatsoever. Chaged it for a gearboxman kit, but the original never failed.

I`ve seen boxes last for 7-8 year with bad whining so I would not panic about a little noise

Ive found that above about 400 hp the gears in the T5 actually dissapear when making a change flat out , its bad enought that the ratios are shit but on several occasions ive lost places when trying to find 3rd in particular , bloody things !

I havent broken a box yet but have had two that sounded straight cut

One so bad that you could hear the car way before you saw it

I have ran over 2.5 bar on a T4 so that must have given the box a very hard time.

Its starts by getting noisy on overrun only after a few hard runs but gradually gets so it whines all the time.

Both boxes changed up and down gears well and both were fitted with the same quickshift.

My new getrag box is so slick comapared to the T5 alothougth with a slighty longer change
