I feel the same, I get a real buzz out of being considered the "underdog" at any track day and showing the Jap boys that Fords can still cut it .

im sure its ok mike, the car holds like 5 litres and only took 1 and 3/4 max to fill it back up, done a gd 2 hard sessions after and Nigel said it was fine!! Checking it like everyday now tho

i was VERY impressed with the evos at Dono, a bit surprised really how good they actually are and did open my eyes,especially with mine having an oil leak and stopping it from going out.

well i was considering buying an evo8 320 before i bought my current escort cos which is a 2.4 power enginering conversion running greys and 31psi with the brakes and box to cope with the power
and dont get me wrong i respect evos alot but everyone seems to have one now adays and when driving the escort people look at you more as they seem to be more special
performance wise i had a go in against a rc developments set up car running 420 bhp and the two cars a totelly different with how they deliver the power the evo seemed a bit boring and didnt have the kick a cossie does when the turbo is coming on strong luckily for reliability my escort hasnt let me down (yet) but i am a ford boy and i just couldnt bring myself to buying the evo
and when i come to sell my escort i will proberly get near as what i paid for it back

keep the cossie there are plenty of evos for sale and there still will be next year you can buy one then

as much as i like the evo's i would never own one , i am a ford man to the back bone if you was too cut me in 1/2 i would bleed ford i love the cossies too much

i will never leave the ford sceen


i just prefer the ford im not blinkerd the evo's are great cars but not for me

my fav evo is the TME 6


if your heart is set on an evo just buy one what have you got to lose and if your not happy you can always buy another escort



i cant wait for the Focus to come out give it to the evo owners we will see how many convert back to the rusty ford if it does well and deliver the good

Dave, Mike etc are very good drivers imo, i've seen them on track lots of times, totally commited to the point of almost insanity.

I see it like this, now i'm no brilliant driver so don't all jump on my comment but the times i've been to track days and seen Evos that are only running 350-380bhp trance so called BIGGER bhp cossies is not true

But like i said above, Dave, Mike etc can really drive there cars to the limit and give anyone a run imo, except the likes of Norris RC obviously.

Just cast our minds back to the Bristol group day @ Combe, apart from Martoon the 3 fastet cars were those Evos i'm sure you'll al rember and 2 of them are only @ 380bhp


But i still love the cossie too, but people, drive an Evo before you die and see what you think..

you know the fords are old cars really , when you take an evo they are alot newer so they can take a bit more stick , see what they are like when they get a bit of age.... no car will last giving it constant abuse without maintaince

evo's do break you know........ they are not so called bullit proof like the owners think they are

they last abit longer because they are alot newer newer that it

Soul and character? PMSL, it's a lump of metal and the older it gets, the more money it'll cost you, that's not including the cost of mods to get it anywhere near on a parallel with a newer, far more advanced technology car.

A far larger percentage have moved on to Jap from Ford ownership and stayed, than those who went Jap and moved back to a shonky old Ford.

why beat around the bush,they are just too old and ureliable.
you put in lots of time and money and get hardly any return in fun,even when you are having fun you have the constant nigle in the back of your mind that"things are going too well,somethings going to break!"

my mate had an fq340,it took everything he threw at it and only ever did services and pads(not modded in any way).

i like to see cosworths on the road as they are getting rare now and still have major road presence.,but i will never own another.

Lynne,

my car is not up there with the best of the mods what people have on their cars,but it has a few on it to make it better than the normal spec escort, so its cost a fair bit already to get it to a spec where it can cope with the mods being done to it.

hopefully with the better speced engine thats going in now,it should be ok for a good while...i hope. as the other engine was a bit tired after what it has been through.

think i will feel better when its back on the road.

Having made the very difficult decision myself.

YES DEFFO WITHOUT A SHADOW 100%

I will never go back to a Cossie even though I love them, and loved mine when it worked, which at a guess I'd say was 50% of the time.

The novelty of having a 320bhp car that works everytime I use it is great.
I've done 4 track days and the Ring in it in 3 months. It's cost me a service and set of rear pads.

The fact that it laps Combe and the Ring at the same pace as my old 470bhp Cossie speaks volumes about how good they are and it can only get better when I mod the standard stuff for bits like the Cossie had on it.

All I need now is a bit more poke (380/400 would do, more would be great) and then I won't get held up by people in track prepped Escorts that won't pull over when a quicker car is stuck up their ass for lap after lap. Those who saw me at Dono will know who I mean and why power is the only thing I plan to concentrate on now, the handling is fine as standard.

Get one Dave, I genuinely think you'll like it, Ford man or not. You love going fast on track, you get fed up with things letting you down, you have enough money in the Escort to change. I'd say go for it.

I must say after being lucky enough to go out with SIB and his has a bit less power than mine it was over taking alot at Rally Day and he drove there and back

Fair Play to you tho Si it was you pulling out of the pit when i was putting the escort on the back of the trailer at the end of the day that made me think shit what am i doing

UNLESS you break something....

get out now. You obviously are not happy.

Evos are far superior and so what if they lack a bit of sparkle or character... I'd rather be on track enjoying myself in the 'duller' car than loading the crap broken one onto a trailer AGAIN!

To be honest... I will be really surprised if the Sierra is not broken very soon. I just don't use it enough and it just seems to cost proper money everytime I do.... I fancy something small and light and more fun like a Turbo Exige or Caterham or Atom.

And I have the Skyline and 996 Turbo if I fancy taking a big heavy 4x4 BOAT around a track!

If I had any mechanical skills at all. I would keep Sierra but they do need constant tinkering I think... and I can't do it and that winds me the fcuk up Hell I have to get the twins to come around to change a light bulb

Lee you not fancy an Evo nice RS version with a solid reliable 500brake ??

It seems more and more people own Cossies for the Character, funny that as it dont pay the repair bills if it is a track toy it would make sense to get something reliable that handles well

A few people on here and on the phone have told me that my problems are teathing problems and that once i get them sorted that i should have problem free track useage

Any other car and it would have been gone by now but childhood dreams and all the bullshit i wanted the escort for so long seems pemature to give up on it so soon after i just got it on the road/track just brought 2 sets of new wheels for it too

Si,

your car went very well at Donno.

but i love the escort,maybe if i had a saff then maybe i would think about getting one.

the escort has no engine/box in it now and will deffo see how it goes when thats back in,i just cannot throw money at it.

saying that,i have the escort mk.2 cosworth to finish,what will that be like for reliability.

It was my childhood dream also, but then l wanted a modern car that was pretty reliable (i know Cossies can be made relaible) but with lots of money, sell it you have had one get your self an arrive and drive track car like an Evo
