Love the Mk2 and still remember the drive in it.
143mph is the limiter in a std gearbox std wheel n tyre combo rst.

Think you must be mistakin me for someone else tho mate lol. That Mk2 hasnt been on the road in about 6-7 years.
I bet he isn't as you took me out too. Maybe we were both there together. It was probably 2000 and maybe 2001/2!

According to the friendly officer that stopped me not so long ago, he said I would be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for 99.6mph in a 70. Was happy with that and took what came my way (6pts and £200 fine for the record).
The copper was a nice chap and informed me that anything over 94mph will be reported ot the Procurator Fiscal, anything under will be a 3pt penalty.
Back on topic, there was a case like this up in Inverness a while back where a boy was clocked at 136mph iirc in his Scooby, and he was adamant his car wouldn't do this as it was limited to 112mph in line with the normal imports.
He managed to prove that the limiter was still fitted and avoided any punishment last I heard. The eveidence was thrown out as being inaccurate.
All depends what you said your estimated speed was when you pulled over, if you said 70mph then it's your word against theres and in a case like this they need evidence to do you for it.

The fact that your car cant do that speed now is no proof in law that it was not capable of it at the time. Dean charged with doing 169 in an Escort with a book Topspeed of 144, they even said he was travelling South on the M1 when he was going North. He was still charged & banned.
It wont, you will be charged with exceeding the 70mph limit so 71 is enough. If all procedures were followed you will be held to have done 143.

) and he went to court for something similarnot only did he turn up 45 minutes late, he waited for the judge to rant and rave about it before asking why his client (my cousin) was charged with not wearing a seatbelt while riding her motorbike
the judge ranted and raved at the proscution for bring the case to court and threw it out
but this was in india where there is a standard ticket for no seatbelt in a car or no helmet on a bike and the copper ticked the wrong one
so if they can throw this sort of thing out for mistakes like that, they surely putting the wrong speed on a side of the carriageway that he wasn't on should have been easy?
or is it not like that?
