im going to buy some new alloys but the ones im buying have spigot rings on them.

what are they and how do i remove them if needed?

little plastic rings to match the correct centre bore of your car.

useful for numptys that cant work out that if you lightly do up each wheelnut a bit at a time the wheel centres properly even without them.

ie they handy to have the correct ones for your car, but not the end of the world if you dont.

and you can get the correct ones from most wheel suppliers no prob anyhow.

ok good thanks mate. much appricieated. it just thought initially it was something weleded on or something which would make them useless to me.

The people you are buying the wheels from should supply you with the correct spiggots mate, if there not i'd be asking why.

basically they save the wheel manufacturer from producing loads of different size mounting holes, they make em all one size then use different size spiggots for specific make cars.

These are spigot rings and centralise the wheel on the hub.
They also take up the excess gap between the centre of the wheel and your car hub for a better fit.

You can get them on ebay, you may as well get them as they aren't exactly going to break the bank.

you dont NEED them, but thye make things easier when fitting the wheels (ie you dont need to take loads of care are the spigots centre the wheels for you, rather than tightening the wheels bit by bit so they centre themselves).

for me, if you can cheaply get some correct ones off fleabay etc, id get some, just to save effort.

have to ask but why dont the wheels just centre them selves when you have done all four nuts up?

why do you NEED to do it slowly?

i didnt word it too well.

basically if you do one nut up at a time it cant move can it.

if you do each one up a bit at a time each nuts centres the wheel correctly.

and once its centred, you can do it right up.

you have to do this on a lot of cars running spacers etc as they dont have a centre lump for a spigot ring to fit on anyhow.

Yes you do need the correct ones for the wheel and hub they are fitted on to, as in the post by GtechR.

I would say it takes a bit of pressure off the wheel bolts or studs as without them the nuts/studs are all that's holding the wheel. With correct spigot rings fitted, the wheel is also supported around the centre and on the hub itself.

I wouldn't want my wheels fitted with no spigot rings as the weight of the car is resting of the studs/bolts...... bit like running big spacers without being hubcentric.... imo just because you can do something doesn't mean you should!!!

I'd always run wheels with spigots unless the wheels are made specifically for a car
