you dont NEED them, but thye make things easier when fitting the wheels (ie you dont need to take loads of care are the spigots centre the wheels for you, rather than tightening the wheels bit by bit so they centre themselves).

for me, if you can cheaply get some correct ones off fleabay etc, id get some, just to save effort.
