..reference my Saff and this is in no was a diss to the present owner.

I bought the car for 7k which i felt was worth it..BUT i wanted this AMG that came up so was willing to loose a bit as i had no time to break or wait....so i told the perspective buyer i wanted over 6.5k..more 6700...he turns up with 6.5k.......i said ok you got me but just pay for the tax disk which was worth 50 quid...he had no xtra so i said just transfer it in my bank..he said no probs...not seen the money as yet...i have pm'd twice to which he said he would..fair enuff...but on the lastest reply he wants me to waver it it as the water injection pump has blown..and it developed a misfire on the way home to which he has replaced ign amp/dizzy/leads.......now i still want my 50 quid as that was the PRICE...there was no faults as far as i knew with car which was properly tested.

Am i in the wrong should i just accept it or should i expect my 50 quid..i will leave it to you guys to tell me and PLEASE put aside your hate for me.........i wish i could have got a refund or been allowed to pay a bit next day if i find no probs with a cosworth....i lost 450 quid on that car for a quick sale..and the car is deffo worth more...surely the joys of cossie owning.

My opinion, although im sure you will brand me a "hater" and ignore it, even more so as Im a mate of Matt's who bought it.


My honest opinion though is that as a car seller you have an obligation to warranty the car at least as far as being fit for purpose.

Legally I expect Matt should have brought it back to you (or got you to collect it if its not safe to drive potentially due to a misfire) in order for you to rectify the faults, but given the fact he is 400 miles away and they are only minor, I would have thought he has done you a favour by sorting them out and not expecting you to do anything other than make a 50 quid donation towards the cost of parts.

If I had sold the car, I would be fine with that TBH in the circumstances.

TBH if you had wanted £6700 you should have stated that to the new owner, but a buyer would turn up with out the extra cash if you both agreed a price on the phone before hand. And if it has devolped the faults he states then in his eyes he wont want to cough up.

I think its just one of those things when it comes to selling a car, so i dont think you will see your £50

As much as you annoy people I dont see you as the type to fuck some one over. I must admit your last two cossies I have actually been a little jealous of as they were top notch cars.

The car was sold as seen. Now if it was me and the bloke could produce receipts of the above as a good will gesture I would have felt bad and said dont worry about the £50.

If not I would have said suck upon my salty nuts and pay me the money.

I am assuming he bought the car after a test drive, in which it performed well and he was happy enough to buy the car? Then IMHO you can't be held responsible for anything that happens after you have sold it, having done business with you before, albeit for small items, I know you are not the sort of guy to rip people off......

A deal is a deal, he should stick to his word and give you the £50, bit low if he don't IMHO...

When I have sold a car I couldnt give a flying what happened to it, not my problem anymore.

That car never misfired once when i had it, including thrashing the tits off it at TRAX the day before Phil bought it At the end of the day its sold as seen, would say he still owes the money but then i would probably let it go for £50 as i couldn't be bothered with the hassle, yes the joys of Cossie ownership,spend,spend,spend

I would have given the same answer if he sold you the car, or any other 2 people for that matter.

With regards to you not being a trader, you have said several times on here that you have car insurance as a motor trader, so that is where I got that idea from.

Doesnt matter if its trade or private though, car still has to be fit for purpose IMHO and if I sold a car privately that misfired on the journey home, I would feel morally obligated to do something about it personally.

And wether or not you haggle on the price of a car doesnt effect your rights as far as im aware, unless its something mentioned in the haggling such as "im going to knock 200 quid off cause that wing has a scratch on it" anyway

Letting someone take a car when they have not fully paid for it is not good, regardless of who it is.

The price was 6700 he brought 6500..i said no...i will take 6550 he had no xtra so i trusted him to bank it.

He told Matt that he wanted 6500+ for it, ideally 6700, and that if Matt didnt buy it then someone else was coming at the weekend who Phil had already agreed to sell it to for 6500.

In that situation, there is NO WAY I would have been offering the seller more than 6500 quid personally, as its blatant he is prepared to let it go for that.

And TBH I would have probably offered him 6300 or similar on the basis that most people will view 6300 in their hand as better than a promise off some bloke they will come and pay 6500 at a later date.

Dont any of you guys haggle when you buy a car?

Im not twisting that at all, he paid the agreed price less 50 quid which he still owes you, I dont dispute that at all as Ive not spoken to Matt about it to hear any different so Im quite happy to take your word for it, I dont consider you to be a liar over money.

However, when you buy a car and a serious fault comes to light straight away, the seller is obligated to fix it IMHO (and I beleive in the eyes of the law) so I think that Matts request to keep the 50 quid towards rectifying that fault is a fair request and if I was the seller I would happily honour that request and would just be greatful I didnt get the car brought back to me to rectify it myself.

I agree that stating wanting over 6500 is not as clear cut as saying, the lowest is 6501 which is the same thing.

But if you agree to a deal on the day, even if Matt had agreed to pay 9k, that is the deal that was struck.
