Default Hydrogen induction on a car?

We had a guy come into work today claiming to have invented this system where the cars air flow is mixed with nitrogen.
All it is was a small 1ltr tank with some destilled (deionised) water in with two "special grade stainless rods" in. one was earthed and the other was put to 12v so when the car is started it is live.
on top of the bottle was a small plastic pipe that went in to the induction pipe on the car before the airfilter and as it fizzed away in the bottle nitrogen gas was made and sucked into the engine.
He claimed with paper work that his Honda Civic now does 90MPG whereas it did 45, and the CO readings were down to 0.01% on tickover. he has had it on his car since Feb and claimed that everything is good and even gave us a setup yo put on our work van for a month.

whats your thoughts on this?? will definatly keep you posted.

sounds utter shite to me.....

If it was even as slightly good as he made out, car manufacturers would use it as standard. There's no way that a little fizzing bottle of water can produce enough gas, or anything for that matter to more than double a car's mpg figure.

I stand to be corrected.....

Got some doubts but a few of my thoughts.....

As long as the oxygen level ratio to fuel remains the same then
combustion wont be affected depending on how much is added.

However, the low CO is beacuse it is a measurement percentage of the
total mixture volume that the N2 is now taking extra place up so that is
miss leading I think.

Higher cyclinder pressures caused by less space in the cyclinder effectively
raise the CR so may have some benefit but may peak as cyclinder temperatures
rise and cause negative effects.

I have heard also that N2 mix does increase the knock threshold to a point.

As for saving fuel without decreasing performance - NO

Well you won't get Nitrogen that way.

You'll get Hydrogen and Oxygen but certainly not enough to run an engine on, not even on tickover.

It'll cost more in petrol with the electrical load than he'll get back in H & O. It'd be a damn sight more efficient if he used salt water instead of de-ionised.

my fault.. I ment Hydrogen, heading changed
Its adding with the petrol not on its own, and the pump draws 7amps
as i said at work cant see it being that simple or others would have done it years ago. matey is about 50-60years old and yes looks slightly like Doc emmet brown.
would like to see what his valves and seats look like as there looked to be to much water condensation in the pipe for my liking.

PMSL.

I remember a post on here ages asking if could inject oxygen out of a cylinder instead of nitrous. But can't remember why you couldn't/shouldn't do it. Is it because of the higher bottle pressures involved with using oxygen?

Sounds like crap to me

For a start, electrolysis is slow, as mentioned, it produces hydrogena nd oxygen from water rather than nitrogen (which is inert).

It doesnt mention whether he is piping the oxygen side or the hydrogen side to the intake. Either way I can't see it working without it being a complete conversion to the engine, engine management and fuel/induction system.

Now, the BEST thing I have seen in a LONG time is a bloke up in Scotland, (it was on a tv program a while back). He converted some little car to hydrogen power, which is all well and good, perfectly achievable.

But as he lived up on one of the Scotish Isles, he put a wind tubine up on his land, and used this turbine generator to perform electrolysis, generating the hydrogen required for his car! Which was properly free fuel, totally green etc......natural energy used to generate it, and when burned, it just generates water, nil carbon emissions.

Fairplay to the guy for that - and I'm not a fan of anything "green" at all!

Your car with a cat puts out about that amount of CO anyway
