Default Car runs from a jerry can...

but not from the tank?

what does that mean?

i could list all the problems but would be forever but basically my calibra won't start unless i put a pipe from a jerry can straight to the pump.

i have half a tank of petrol so its def not empty

i have also inspected inside the tank and it seems very tidy, ie no blockages etc.\

any ideas would be great!

run pump in bucket of water out of tank HAS to be a blockage of some sort if it runs out of tank. does it sit in a swirl pot?

umm the pump is an external pump, the pick up from the tank sits in a swirl pot inside the tank. does that make sense to you?

so fuel is picked up from a swirlpot in the tank and sent through a pipe to the pump mounted just outside the tank.

so i'm assuming you have the pump mounted lower/at the same level of the base of the tank?

might sound a obvious question but you'd be suprised what people do!

Yep i see your point! Basically the tank / pump have not moved from their original positions, all bolted up where it should be, although i had the jerry can higher when i tried that.

im running out of ideas or wondering if im even looking in the right places for the fault?

i would say prehaps the pump is on the way out and it can't suck the fuel as well which is why when you literally have it gravity fed, i.e. in a jerry can higher, it works.

But run it past someone like chip first as i'm not too sure!

Have you blocked the vent when putting it back in?

Like a straw with your finger over the end?

i don't know, i'm running out of ideas on that one, possibly fuel contamination perhaps?

so let me get this right, you have the pump with the pick up in the swirl pot and it doesn't work, yet when you join the jerry can to the feed on the pump it works? so you must have a problem with the feed to the pump, blockage or something.

thats it exactly, and thats also the way im thinking as i have by passed the tank completely and it works using a jerry can, but i can see no reason why the tank will be a problem as the pick up seems fine, no dirt in the tank, filter is clear, plus used my bro's compressor to clear out all the lines (including the lines under the car to the engine bay plus back the other way.

unless the seal on the tank hasn't been completely tight, would that cause some kind of airlock?

does it sound like i need to drop the tank again?

might give me a chance to check this too, although i was quite careful putting it back together.

as long as the problem is 99% conected to the fueling from the tank i at least have something to go on, been up an down the car checking everything from ignition down to the wiring to the injectors!!
