Good point about Nikasil being just a coating, surely whatever it is applied too needs to be stronger, as that is the issue - not wear.

They are an aluminium liner coated with a silicone carbide nickle sometimes ceramic i.e Yamaha.
The coating expands at the same rate as the aluminium, and therefore does not distort up the shape, as the bore will remain perfectly round. The rings will rotate about 7 times per 10,000 rpm, as the rings do this in a perfectly round bore they wear evenly. If a bore becomes egg shaped, the rings will not rotate, and will cause uneven wear.
Standard rings will cope, but the rings will not last as long

Mike,

Despite what you may think, I and others are genuinely interested.
As Gareth said elsewhere, its nice to see what spec does what and your
set up isnt a run of the mill type thus making it more interesting.

Dont forget, many on here are your customers and respect what you do
with your car. You say its good then prove it. !

If the tables were turned, you would say the same

back on topic i forgot to tell you mike that the truck driver stopped off at the ford cologne plant to pick up the focus estate and a massive crowd came out to have a look at your escort

same at customs in france, they all had a good look at it apparently.

I was just joking Mike. No offence was ever intended. I Know full well this is an awesome engine and cost alot of money, just thought you would see my comment as a joke.

Simon,
All the people close to me KNOW what power it made, I don't care about anyone else . In fact, I find it REALLY funny that people getting so narked about me not putting it up .

Nick,
That is REALLY cool to here - it's nice to know that the car was appreciated , although not sure if the customs interest was a good thing or not .

Benni,
If you note my smilies that I used, you will see there was no animosity in my reply, so yes I realised that .

I didn't need to ask, you should have told me

Rich,
Because that is the "qualifying" boost level if I need it to dispatch the likes of the "Daves" , and not the boost level the car will be run at on a regular basis. In-car, I only intend to run it at 29psi for longevity. It will only have the full 32psi if and when needed, as I really need the engine to last at least as long as my last one, as it has gone significantly over budget .

Ryan,
Yes thanks .

Chris,
I like your attitude . What did you imagine ?

It was turning the same way as the last 12 page dyno thread I sat and read for over an hour so on this occasion I decided to skip a page or 3. But now I will go back and read it.

Well I don't know how to read a dyno print off! To me it looks like a polygragh. Why does the bit at the top say "SCS dyno chart B18BHP Mincer Rainbird COSWORTH 2.6 YB HKS t4 03/04/2007" ?

Yes mine looks a LOT better than that

As mine starts at 3k and doesn't drop one single bhp until after 7500 and is still making 500bhp at 8500 - and that's on Optimax - you should see it on race fuel .

Anyway, hope you get it sorted Mike, always interesting reading about your car

Dave i dont see the problem with Mike not wanting to put his results up. If you didn't want to put yours up you wouldn't.

If Mike is happy with it then i know it will have met his requirements if not excedded them.

Dave,
Now I'm confused , as you say you only really got to 6500 on the dyno day, but your dyno plot clearly shows two further rpm points after this .

But just so you're happy, your engine makes more power than mine at every single point until 7500, and then mine takes over the batton .

However, you're running SEVEN more psi than me, and on my engine, each psi is worth 22bhp, so if you reduced your boost or I increased mine, they would actually be pretty evenly matched until 7500....

Dave,
Yes, I can see you had issues, but it only looks to be when you ran the race fuel, the road fuel plot looks V. Good and goes all the way to 7500 . The race fuel plot only goes to a smidge over 7k, so ties in with your coil problems .
