Nick,
Where and when were the pictures taken, as when I phoned yesterday, I was told that the car would be with Harvey today?

Doug,
Oil in with water - assumed to be in order of likely-hood:
1. Cracked liner.
2. Head gone porous around exhaust valves.
3. Faulty head-gasket.

Obviously I'm praying for the latter, but as Harvey has only ever seen one be faulty in all his life, I don't think my bad luck is that good !

Mike,

Did your ADAC european plus cover also include repatriating the car?

Cheers,
Marc.

Yes it did . ADAC have been awesome and I would recommend them to anyone. Best Ł50 I have ever spent . Last year they recovered me to Julich (60 miles from the 'Ring) to cure the drive shaft maladies.

This Easter, first they recovered me from the side of the track (another popped drive shaft ), then repatriated the car after the engine woes .

I even mentioned about the hydraulic handbrake and the usual German efficiency have taken care of it .

Phil,
Regarding the engine, a head gasket failure would mean I would have the car back for the weekend, hence wishing for that.

If it is the head, that means waiting for Nick to do me a new one (several weeks).

If it is the liners, that will mean the block going off to Perfect Bore and being machined for Nikasil ones, which is a 4-6 week lead time BEST case scenario, which means the car would be off the road for the best part of 8 weeks .

Thats fantastic service for 79.50 euro I knew they would recover from the 'ring, but wasnt sure about repatriation!

Im in the process of renewing my membership now, no easy task when every single word on the form is in German

Anyway, best of luck with the car

Edit:- ADAC truck, Basingstoke, Doh! Of course they brought it back

Phil,
The BMW is also on it's way back to Scotland on a lorry . Stevie* killed the front near-side wheel bearing, which took out the bottom ball joint and inner TCA bushes, followed by the nylon bush inside the Ł700 damper .

*I accept no responsibility to contributing to this, as I drove the car with more respect than he did, driving around 15-20s a lap slower (not wanting to add someone elses car to the ever growing list of broken ones) .

However, I couldn't resist hanging the back end out at Adenau Forst for the "fans" (as RW calls them ), so if anyone has any pictures / video clips of that, it would be greatly appreciated .

i forgot that i am still a member of adac from when i lived there - my monthly magazine came yesterday.

they are not perfect though - i had a rad explode on my v6 estate near the 'ring and they would not take me back to near frankfurt as they said the cost of getting repaired was more than the value of the car (said it would need full rebuild etc as head gaskets must have gone - in reality i had taken the viscious fan off and the control for the electric one was broken )

this was at the same time that my cossie had broken down on the way back from a track day at hockenheim with a melted alternator - the adac gimp jacked it up to have a look and it fell off the jack and bent the steering arm

so with some strong words to the effect that i wouldn't have been driving the estate if they hadn't broken the cossie, i got a hire car for the week while the estate was trucked home and the local ford dealer fixed the cossie

Adenau Forst is not "show-boat" you gimp, that's Brunchen, Adenau Forst is the big open area with the tight 90 left and right after "Fox-hole" . And where is my points card you promised to send straight away ?

Its the lack of proper preperation thats the issue here.

If you had prepared your car to a suitable standard you could drive it home like JC did with his

New one mate.

The ring was always going to be a harsh "shakedown" of it.

Was performing really well till whatever issue this is appeared by all accounts, so im sure that when fixed it will seem worth the effort
