Why is it impossible to get parts for my 15 year old cossie?
Time for a rant........
Why oh why aren't reproduction parts made for the cossie?
Surely there are enough cars out there to warrant ford of somebody reproducing parts and in turn I imagine they would make a huge profit off the back of selling them to us with a huge mark up attached.
I've owned my cossie for only a year now and am frustrated that everytime something brakes the only option i have is to buy second hand parts (which is never easy). So far this has included door cards, front bumper mounts, power steering return pipe, headlight glass, window switches, fog light.
I always see programmes on the TV like wheeler dealers where they will restore 15-20 year old VW's, Lexus', Mini's etc and all the replacement parts/trim's etc are available to order off the shelf.
Are the RSOC doing enough for us RS owners?

No idea but i remember chatting to someone at Woodford Garage about this a while back, it seems Ford and Cosworth arent interested in letting their blueprints out to the RSOC from what i been told.
Whether thats true or not remains to be seen but it would be nice to keep these cars on the road for as long as possible obviously

There are limited amounts of parts still available, most you find if you have a good parts contact at fords. Mainly they dont have a clue or just dont give a f**k.
Some parts are located in Germany, and Europe and can cost a lot to be sent over.
I know one person who was quoted £450 for a genuine Escort Cosworth Door £250 for the door and £200 to ship it over from Germany!!!
Once I have my contact at Ford sorted, I may be able to get my hands on some hard to find items, if they are still available.

I can't understand why there isn't a eurocarparts type place for Fords. I've just been on there and for a laugh typed in a 1981 Golf GTi 1.6. They've got literally everything available brand new.

There's still loads of places making pattern stuff, lights, panels etc all as good as gen ford (usually manufactured by the same people) You've just got to know where to look!

I would love to sit here and call all the suppliers , tossers, but its supply and demand. Simple maths that on the vw front many more cars were produced so theres a bigger market.Look at the amount of esc cos left on the road and so where s the profit, i love both my saff and the escort but it the lack of them on the road that makes them what they are .......................you cant have it all ways

i told him to drive 2 miles away, turn around then drive back, on the drive i told him to count how many cossies he saw & also how many mondeo's and focus's he saw!!!
as stated, its supply & demand, most people who come in for RS parts normally faint when you give them a price anyway, theres not that many who don't look overly surprised & just coment 'well i need it'

Mr local parts guy is spot on - He seems to be able to get anything i need, even parts people are paying silly money for on the like of ebay.
For example sapph cossie jacking covers - I've seen them fetching silly money on ebay. How about go and buy them for under a £5er each new from Ford???

so, whats needed then is some sort of "commitee" or group, made up of say a couple of members from each Ford site (RSOC, PF, XROC etc), then appraoch Ford to release blueprints.
Gather together some figures on how many of the various cars are left on the road, estimate sales of said parts etc. Surely it can't be that hard.
