Wire Ringing a Block
I want to build up a cossie engine. My mate has a 200 block in his workskop which i can have for a small price or I can use my old 205 block which is alo in the workshop, but this needs to be wire rung which I have been told will be around 400 quid.
What are the pros and cons or wire rung blocks?
Is it better to use a 205 wire rung block as opposed to a normal 200 block?
Will be using 4x4 cossie pistons to get the comp down 7.8:1.

wire ringing won't cost anywhere near Ł400 either,i'd expect Ł150 at the most.
the idea is to increase the sealing of the fire rings on a standard or group A gasket (fibrous type)to prevent them blowing out,
a 205 block in a 2wd car would be fine for decent power, mines working fine at over 400bhp anyway.
The 200 production blocks aren't that much better than a 205 really, but they are slightly better,so i'd use one and keep one spare
a WRC headgasket would be better than Wire ringing also, but at Ł370 ish they are a little dear, but they are fit and forget (provided they are fitted to perfectly flat surfaces)

I know the 200 block is stronger but is there really that much difference between that and a 205. The 205 is free and the 200 block will have to be paid for.
Ideally im thinking of stage 3 or greys and thats it really. T34, stnadard cams, 4x4 pistons, 2wd head. Pretty basic really but shoud be good for 340-370 bhp at least.
see my reply above then
i'll be running 450bhp maybe more soon hopefully, and i don't expect any problems tbh.
i actually hear of more cracked 200 blocks than i do 205 nowadays too!
if that's all you want to run (370bhp) then a 205 will be fine,my old car ran T34.63/Greys/2bar on a 1mm overbore

a 205 block is more than enough for 400bhp so im sure it will be fine.
Got my eyes on another turbo which is slightly bigger than a t34
and is cheap cheap
brand new too
that should piss 400 too.

I reckon Martins on the low end- I would have thought 250 was about right..
is not that much to do it.
is this not a compass type tool that sits in the bores and you score the block face by twirling it round....like a compass to make circles.
oh and a bit of mig wire.
and i believe once its done the block has to have this wire in all the time, therefore not being able to have a metal gasket on.
sure someone will correct me.

as above only wire ring if useing a group a,its the old way of doing it,steel multilayer replace all that now, spend Ł100 on a cometic but make sure your block and head surface are like glass

Fisher charged me about Ł80 too,but as you and i both know Ad,he doesn't do these things for his own personal gain
I think the going rate is Ł150?
I actually meant 400 for a linering
should stated linering in the subject not wire rung?
Whats the pros and cons or linering a block? Obviously they wont be nikasil liners due to cost

Bit of a difference between the two Ran

Why does the block need linering? For Ł400 I'd seriously be thinking of adding a bit more and getting a new block, or go for the 200 block if it's ok?
Linering is a way of reclaiming a block, but the company has to have had experience of doing it, and preferably on a YB (imo) - liners are common on V8 for example - doesn't mean their method will be ideal for a rapidly heating turbocharged motor...... and a lot of the horror stories from linering are due to poor installation techniques.

Bill - it needs linering as when one of my vavles decided to go exploring it scored the bore - will have to double check as i havent looked at it for a couple of years.
I was thinking of ebaying the 205 block off and just getting the 200 block from my mate.
