Default Boosting Problem QUICK QUESTION

Hiya just too ask a quick question my FRST, is running really bad when coming on boost when it gets around say 6psi,

I've notiched that all thier is going from the turbo to the acumulator is a short length of pipe and its not going to the overboost propection / monitor thing (sorry the plastic thing with 2 pipe connections and a multiplug on the top.

Could this be causing it to run funny also it won't idle smooth and sits at 1400rpm

Cheers for your Help GUYS

The spec is

Complete engine overhall to stage 1
Modified escort turbo head to fit EFI
0.5mm rebore with Mahle pistons and ARP Big End Bolts
Garrett T3 Turbo conversion
Pace Twin Core Intercooler
Uprated Injectors (beige)
Superchip 195 turbosystems
-31 Actuator
Full custom chrome s/s exhaust system
New Radiator
Samco Boost pipes
KnN filter

THANKS AGAIN.

from what your describing mate i think your describing the amal valve? and the accumulator, do you mean actuator? if the pipe is going from the turbo direct to the actuator then that shouldn't cause a running problem, try unplugging the amal valve! if not then think your problem lies elsewhere! could check the vacuum pipe that goes to map sensor hasn't come off!

Cheers bud the thing im on about is on the off-side wing its black with ford and some code written on it, sorry im not too good with turbo's or injection

i say the acumulator it might be the actuator its on the turbo thiers a pipe about 4 inch long going from the turbo to the acutuator and i don't think thier anyother pipe arart from the boost ones i'll have a look

where would the map sensor be located and where would the pipe spur of from to goto it

Thanks a lot for you help mate.

Okay just checked all thier is is a small pipe going from the actuator to the turbo, there's a tea off on the big intake pipe going from the turbo to the air filter but that just capped (blocked) of, and thats it thiers no other pipes.

Thiers a wire going to the metal pipe with turbo written on it, but i think that just goes to the temp gaugde thing on the dash.

Is thier supposed to be a pipe going to ECU or somthing then, Cheers BAZ.

Dont know much about FRST's but is it the overboost protection?

On ERST's with a standard ECU the ignition will cut over 9 psi or so.

The amal valve is there to control the boost level, if this has been disconnected as you describe it could be overboosting. How long have you had the car?

Thats where a dumpvalve would usually be.

ACT sensor if its the same as an ERST

Dont think so, I imagine it is all sensor controlled on EEC-IV. Again, on ERST's you have a small pipe which goes from the front of the compressor housing to the ECU. I think the MAF sensor would remove the need for that.

there should be one pipe going to the turbo compressor housing from the amal valve (the small plastic round thing with a plug on top of it.)

there should also be another pipe from this amal valve going to the actuator.

the small tee-off you describe will be what normally connects to the air filter housing on a standard car,i'm presuming you still have the standard turbo to air filter pipe, but with a cone filter?

the map sensor is located on the bulkhead behind the inlet manifold, the pipe should join to the inlet manifold somewhere, preferably with no tee-offs to anything else (althoug from the top of my head it may also be with the vacuum pipe for the brake servo.

reconnect the pipes as mentioned and hopefully your car will behave better

Thanks a lot for your help guys

Um i found the main problem its got a Escort turbo head on it with the EFI injection and the intake manifold won't seal against the head using a fiesta turbo gasket u need to use a escort one and the guy i baught it of put a fiesta one on, so it had like a 5mm gap before each port.

Im gonna put a escort gasket on this tuesday and double check for leaks the heads been machined to alow for the injectors so it might be okay without a EFI to MFI adaptor plate,

Im gonna rig up the pipes to the amal valve aswell just be be extra safe,

DOES THE AMAL valve actually make that much difference.

Thanks again for your help guys, it makes a lot of difference.

OK done that now the car drives and boosts fine well almost fine bit funny sometimes, but it won't idle idles about 1600-1800 when cold and choke is on but when its warm it dies won't idle atall and runs lumpy anything below 2k and ideas guys, im taking it into a RS specialist next week but anything i could do to it before then would be a great help.

Also about the amal valve how much difference does this actually mate, Cheers BAZ.
