BMW Convertibles - RESETTING ROLL OVER HOOPS question...
#1
![Default](https://passionford.com/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif)
Evening all,
I know there's a lot of clever peeps on here, plus a few
BMW owners, so a question for you...
How do I lower the roll over hoops on my M3 Cabby? Had a bit *cough* of a sideways moment at the Weston PF meet and things nearly went
Came on to a roundabout too quick (50/60 ish), the back slid wide, I dialled in the lock, then I think I backed off (as was at this point heading straight towards the central reservation of my exit road
) The car snapped round the otherway and I was then head on at the armco beside the exit road. Luckily (bit of an understatement) missed the barrier by a matter of an inch or two, sliding at least 20 feet sideways to the direction of the road.
No damage to the car thankfully, but a bit of a brown trouser moment. Lesson learned - I can't go round that roundabout as fast as I do in my 4x4 Cossie...I won't do that again.
The Roll over hoops popped up mid slide (good to know they work, proper shit me up when they popped up
), but they now won't go back down.
Anyone know how to reset them?
Technical diagrams of the incident will follow shortly as JJCoDex was following me in his M5 and saw all of it... I'm sure he'll be on his etch-a-sketch shortly!!!

Can you tell me what it says to do? At the mo the hoops are pressing against the rear window and I don't want to stretch the hood permanently!
Any help greatly appreciated! Tried joining the forum you mentioned on 11/11/06, got an email confirming I had signed up, but it said an Admin guy would have to authorise my account. Still not been done 16 days later

I have Pirelli P Zero Rosso on the front (ACE TYRE) and Kumho
![Confused](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)
However I can't blame the slide on the car - I was going too quickly.
It does handle well, I just need to learn how to handle IT!
The Cossie on the other hand I just throw around and hoof it, and it goes pretty much where I point it, hence why I love 4x4.

Hi Si
Much better qualit drawings today. I am impressed.
I think your 50-60 is slightly conservative!!! it felt much quicker when we were following you.
The headrests shoot out within 3/10tenths of a second when they sense an imminent rollover!!!!
Anyway, reset procedure is as follows form the TIS tech manual.
![](https://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n108/silverfox1100/m3rolloverhoop.jpg)
That show the special tool that should be in your toll kit. These are the destructions..
BTW, after 248 deployments it needs to be serviced! try not to do it again...
![](https://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n108/silverfox1100/m3rolloverhoop2.jpg)
Hope this helps (if you cant read the pics to well ping me an email and i will forward the docs direct)

Then yes, but as it is the "dont get in a rwd car with him EVER" approach is probably a better one

PMSL - you gotta learn somehow though! Perhaps somewhere with a little more space would be good I must admit!

I just remember him saying before he went out "there will be none of that sideways stuff you did" !!
