I am getting rather pissed off with my job at the mo

Seem to be getting strange customers

Example 1

Just had a bloke on the phone today who bought a set of fans for a cossie from me as both his didnt work .
I tested the fans before sending them to him ( i have 3 witnesses ) and the worked perfect
He calls today saying both the fans dont work , he has had his car to an auto electrician and he says the fans are fooked

Remember , i tested them before i sent them

I tell him i tested them and they were perfect

He starts getting agressive with me saying i have ripped him off

What do i do ?? I dont want a bad reputation for the sake of £40 set of fans ,,,BUT ,, why should i change them when i 100% know they were perfect

If i give him a refund i loose out , if i dont i get a bad reputation ,,I CANT WIN.

I know its only £40 but its the principle

What do i do

tell him as a goodwill gesture if he posts you back his original non working fans you will give him a tenner for them, cause you can bet those work too and the clueless fuck just hasnt got them wired up right

Just get him to send them back to you, refund him the cost and sell them again.
You might lose on some postage, but you keep your rep and perhaps have to swallow it as one of lifes lil pills that it gives us now and again.
Hopefully keeping his records and refusing any future sails to him as well.

OH

Example 2

Bloke rings me for a 3 door front bumper on the 4/9/06

I sell him one for £250 , mint condition ( from the 3 door brand new shell i had for sale a month or so ago )

yesterday he rings me telling me the bumper is fooked and wont fit his 3 door

I tell him ,,bollocks mate ,, it fitted the brand new shell i had

I offer to show him piccs

He says its the wrong bumper

After a 10 mins talk it turns out he wants a 500 bumper
I tell him thats not what he asked for and that they are £600

Ok i will send you the other one back and you refund me the £250 and i will get a 500 bumper for my car ( not from me tho )

I say sorry but why should i refund you as you got what you asked for and its taken 24 days for you to call me

If he hadnt lied and said it was fooked i would have refunded him as i can sell it on no probs , but he gets very arsy with me telling me he is going to get me shut down etc

At the end of the day he has decided he wants a 500 bumper now and just tried it on

I told him to kiss my arse

Fans - Get him to send them back at His Cost, Test them again to make sure his Auto sparky hasnt just made him out to be a Pleb and found he had got them hooked up wrong, If they work tell him to fook off. If they dont refund him and tell him to fook off

Bumper Should have known what he was buying before he handed over the cash

if the fans were working when you sent them out then it's probably the sparky who's fooked them or it's anotehr problem with the wiring

i'd he'd stayed calm and all that i would have problay said explain to him how to wire them up and if they don't work, as long as he woas willing to pay for the postage back, you could possibly send him out anotehr set

but seeing as he's being an arse about it, i'd tell him that they were working when they were sent out to him, and if it's the same set of fans and they are now not working, it's his sparky thats fooked them
then tell him to send them back at his cost to have a look at them
and then see if they work or not

but theirs only 2 wires how the fook can you wire them up wrong its proberly just a blowen fuse on his car or his wireing on it

i work for myself as well and come across part changers all the time they fix it eventually, but you live and learn all the time
engrave everything you can and mark your invoices tested before delivery.

a friend of mine has a good sign in his breakers

Oldest trick in the book this.. buy same product as you have thats broken- Take back broken item for a refund.

ARGOS deal with it all the time..

It amazes me why some people think they can get away with it with breakers and people who are clued up.

Also in the 7 or so years of being in retail ( which you technically are) of all the people who come in and moan/phone up threatening you with the press/local radio/tell all their mates/come down and shoot you etc etc etc.

I have never ever had anyone do anything of the sort.

So in reality tell Mr FANS- to sod off and infuture not to bother ringing you when he wants some other parts but to go to a less reputable dealer ( of which their are loads) and pay through his nose.
Tell him his address is on your "black list" and you will no longer post or supply parts to that address.

is there no way you can distinguish your fans from his fans?

if so, ask him to send them back and then claim you never got them

this plan falls flat on its face if hes done it recorded or whatever, but i've had parcels confirmed delivered and the other guy has said they didn't turn up

Why not get him to send them back and tell him you will replace the part from an identical item frshly tested.. That way they come in and just send them back to him...

In all honesty mate i'd tell him to fuck right off!

So what if he goes and tell his mates, they are probably all like him anyway and in reality you don't want customers like that!

The people that do use you with trust will be the ones you'll make money from and continue to grow a business with, at the end of the day they all know your a reputable breaker!

Just get your invoices marked as has been said and advise people your item's are 'sold as seen' but tested first

For the sacrifice of one person's business mate you'll save a shitload of hassle and a hell of alot of stress!

You could even come up with 'the inspection/testing receipt' if he wants to see it

Call his bluff

tell him you will arrange for a courier to collect your set of fans plus his "fucked" ones and will refund him the £40 for yours plus a tenner for the knackered ones as well

If he is genuine you get another set of fans for £10 which probably just need a simple repair (usually just corroded terminals).

and if he is lying you have him by the balls as he will end up with no fans at all if he has to part with both sets.

Paul you have built up an excellent reputation, all by word of mouth/internet etc, & being one of your 1st customers i will always phone you. The sad thing is no matter how good of a reputation you have, people will always listen to the bad things

Meet him half way, refund him £20 or something. Its WRONG you should have to, but just call it a lesson learnt.

BTW, when you send parts out, to you mark them in anyway so you no there yours, just incase he did send the fooked ones back?

Took the words straight out of my mouth, you have as far as I know an impecable reputation, so what if some pleb tells his mates?

I'd tell him your more than happy to swap his 'faulty' fan for a new one, but as you test all items before they go out, if the next set are also found to be faulty, then in your opinion there is a problem somewhere other than the fans, and you will not swap or refund a second time.

the fans are obviously his that were not working , can you prove they were the same ones if he sends them back, if he does and they are broke dont bother refundeing him. How did he pay for the items also?

Paul you must have the utmost patience mate , but i have always thought that your job must have a life expectancy if that makes sense to make a decent living when you are buying and selling you living has got to be very hard and tiring and with a living that must be up and down like a yoyo because surely you do not know what you will sell ne week to the next so it must be hard to plan ? Also as per example one you are selling old sometimes used parts i am sure it was working when you sent it, he might have fucked it,


Anyway tell them both to fuck off especially the 2nd one cheeky twat

You are 100% ,, this trade is strange as you just dont know what will happen one week to the next , and any business is hard enough without idiots like these 2 trying it on

Sometimes i feel like jacking it all in and doing somthing totaly different , but then again every trade has its problems

There are a lot of good points tho ,,I have mad an amazing number of friends from dealing in cossies and parts etc , most of them are sad like me and spend every min of there spare time on here

ultra violet markers/sprays - alway mark what you sell with your personnell i.d, nobody can see it, so nothing looks strange - lessons learned - trust no one, its a tough world, id tell him to get fooked .

paul, dont offer a refund, im sure you have 50 million other sets of fans, so when the turn up, test em, if they are fucked, send another marked up set out that work.

if he says he dont need em anymore then, yes, he has swapped yours for his

so just sent him another set and then call him a cunt!!!

you have to mark parts so it can be seen to make it obvious to the buyer you have identified the part

but you can mark them again with ultra violet for your own piece of mind or a label

the point about marking items is that you will always get soemone who will clean them to bling them up or complain because you've put a tinest spot of paint where no one will ever look

perhaps its time to start putting some sort of mark on just to make sure people know thats the case, something invisable perhaps?
but it's the cost involved that mightnot make it worth the effort eh
