Default QUICK QUICK Please help...RE Ebay

Fook what a twat...

Right, bikes been on ebay last few days ended tonight at 20:20. a lad came to look at it tonight at 6:30, loved it and said he call me back after thinking about it. Now, he left and i took the wife out for tea and at about 20:15 the lad phoned and said he'd have it. Great i said and id told him he could have it for 2800. So he popping cheque down tommorow for me then when it clears hell pick bike up....nice easy sale...

But, ive just got in from curry house and logged on not expecting the bike to have sold on ebay as there was hardly any interest at all and its fooking sold But ive just accepted the lads offer!

WTF do/can i do? Im a man of my word so want lad to have it, but ebays a legal binding contract

just email the highest bidder and tell him you have sold the bike privately today and there is nothing you can do.
he may be understanding and say ok-at worst he will give you bad feedback-but you can always give him bad feedback too

it happens all the time on ebay-ive had;

oh the car has been stolen
the car has been written off by a wagon
my wifes car has blown up so i cant sell this one until i get hers fixed
youre not having the car for that much!

dont worry about it-it hasnt cost the highest bidder anything, but you will have to pay final sale fee.

I would try being a man of your word in regards to the Ebay buyer.
Tell him the truth and see what he has to say. Say it had been bought just minutes before the auction ended.

ROFL @ Tiff

Lee, in all fairness, you should have told the lad that he can have it for Ł2800 provided he is the winning bidder in the auction. I would have told him to go home and put a stupidly high bid on it so he won't get outbid and regardless of finishing price he can have it for Ł2800....

Either that or you should have cancelled the auction when you agree'd to sell it to him privately....

Does it look like the high bidder on Ebay is genuine ie lots of positive feedback.

If he is its really up to you mate, either way someone is going to be seriously pissed off!!

it happens all the time......who is to say the highest bidder isnt from the congo with a forged cheque?

just tell him its sold earlier today and you couldnt end the auction because it was within the last 6 hrs and ebay wont let you do it.

Lee... I put a bid on car on ebay a while ago, it'd didn't meet the reserve, thought nothing more of it, then out the blue there was a second chance offer of Ł500, which I took.

When I contacted him with regards to collection, he bluntly told me that the car was up for sale at Ł2500 and he wouldn't take less. At the end of the day had I turned up at his house, if he didn't wanna sell it I couldn't exactly physically make him take the money. gave him a load of abuse and neg feedback.

I'd assume thats what you'd get, hardly the end of the world tho.

Mate, you can only tell the eBay guy the truth, at the end of the day if it goes past (6 hours is it) you cant stop it anyway...

Just say when you last checked it was nowhere near the price so you didn't expect it to go, you had a deffo offer which you took, and then the bids suddenly ( like they do on eBay) went mad, but you could do nowt about it.

If the bike aint there he cant collect it can he?

I agree with Dave - wait till you have cleared funds (tell the lad to bring cash!) as if he brings a cheque and you tell the ebay buyer deals off, then the cheque bounces and the lad never comes back to you, then you have gone from having 2 comfirmed sales to none in the space of a minute.... Not good......

Let me get this straight, you're arguing about a Ł50 difference on a bike that is offered on Ebay?

Personally i think u should let ebayer have it.
He is innocent and other guy should have just bid...other guy will understand as im sure he respects ebay too.
Its just one of those things but u should sell to ebayer and just swallow yr pride with other guy as was yr mistake anyway hun.

Have to agree with this, especially if the guy who viewed it didn't leave a deposit.

ended tonight at 20:20. a lad came to look at it tonight at 6:30, loved it and said he call me back after thinking about it. Now, he left and i took the wife out for tea and at about 20:15 the lad phoned and said he'd have it.
You're a bit vague about the time the bloke phoned you back What time did the winning bidder make his bid? If you had a firm offer by the ebayer before the guy rang you back, it's only fair the ebayer has it IMO.

Agree with Thrush on sending the ebayer home to put a high bid on. Thats what I have done with stuff and I always state that I can end the auction early at my discretion.

Dumbest thing though is going for a Bhuna when an auction is ending, especially when someone has said they will take it!

Definately go with the cheque buyer as potentially you could end up with nothing if the ebayer is a joker. Whatever excuse you give the ebayer it will look like it didnt reach the price you wanted though.

lads on his way with cheque. As i say, when i took the offer off the lad i didnt know what ebay had gone up to BUT i knew it was looking like it wasnt going to sell...low bids and not many of them.

The lad that won it on ebay KNEW my reserve as i told him, but he didnt stick that in he waited till the end, if he had just stuck the reserve in when i had the decency to tell him then i would have known he was serious and let the auction run till the end

EIL....WTF you couldnt be farer from what this post is about Im NOT in a situation where i need to argue over 50 quid....far from it

I would make the exuses, take the neg feedback, but the exuse would be that you just put it through a hedge or something like that and that you cant get pics because its been impounded.

By the way the bike in your sig is it up for sale??
