sorry for the slight hyjack but...what about quick shifts on the T5 as I know they're quite a slow shifting box...does a quickshift lead to changing gear before the synchros have caught up leading to a nasty crunchy change?? Just wanna know what the sp is before i waste my beer tokens lol

They are a great box, right up until the whole lever comes off in your hand, as mine did on a couple of occasions

I think a more worthwhile mod is to polybush the 4x4 cradle/lever mech etc - remember seeing that a few times.

See, I cant understand this, I have an Unkown quickshift in my car... I have used it on two different boxes, I change gear VERY quickly and have never had a problem with beating the syncro and crunching gears.... they have always been prescise and quick???

I love it, I drove an MT75 without one and it was bloody terrible!!

I got some solid alloy bushes off Martoon for mine and they made much more of a difference than the quick shift thing
Unless you are going to uprate the bushes then imo a quick shift is a waste of money on a 4x4 box!
If you are going to get one anyway then don't bother with the cheapo 40 quid lever/ball thing as they make naff all difference! The B+M one will make the most difference but from experience will rattle and vibrate like a skeleton having a wank in a biscuit tin

Paul, mine is all Polybushed on engine and box and i have a B&M shifter!

Lovely throw and engage, makes it feel nice (Although i do change gear quick sometimes) hence why the synco then gear cog went boom.

Expensive mod but worth the money And while the gearbox is out then why not hey

i had a b+m quickshift in mine and it did make a hellof a difference also poly bushed the cradle

it did rattle but found that it was the spring inside for the lift mech that was rattling so taped the spring up and no more rattles

OK, so poly or solid bushing is the answer. At 90K I expect all the mounts need replacing anyway

Paul,
Avoid the B&M shifters on the MT75 Cosworth 'box like the plague, they are horrible for this and cause issues with the syncros etc (as well as vibrating like a bastard).

What you do want to do is speak to Martin (as Spadge has mentioned), and ask for his solid bush kit for the 'box. These are some metal bushes that remove the "slop" in the gear-change, but don't cause problems with the syncros - job done .

http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog...dc38f2c466c899

thats the quickshift bit you need to change (sorry for breaking any rules about advertising, if they need to be removed then it's fine by me)

the cradle bushes go here

and here

these are rubber, i know that you can get poly ones from power flex and martin now does metal ones
these cause some of the slop in the change
the ruber obviously is able to move so it takes up a bit of the throw in the lever
also, if anyone is changing just the little shifter bit at the bottom you need to make sure that the bolt at the bottom is tight enough not to be loose but not so tight that you can change gear

if you've done this mod before, you'll know what i'm on about
