Default Why calibre turbo pistons????

is there something i dont know????
Why do people go and fit calibre turbo pistons into their 16v zetec turbo engine????? i know it gives the compression of 7.4 or something, but they are no cheaper than proper forged jobbies which were specifically made to do the job Without having to bore out the block and modify rods etc........ could someone please explain???

you can get proper forged pistons for 50 quid a set? :O

also because they are squeeze cast like stnadard cossie ones instead of forged like cossie racing ones, they can run tighter piston to bore clearances which means less piston slap on startup and hence it lasts longer between rebuilds

! As above? Last time i looked forged start from about he 300+ mark?

C20LET pistons can be had for as little as 50 quid which explains why most people building budget Zetec Turbos use them

www.migweb.co.uk

Look through the for sale ads and someone will most probably have a set for sale.

If it makes you feel and better I chucked some 86.5mm ones in the bin a week ago

C20LET pistons are the same size as standard gti-r pistons (86mm) which are also 'squeeze cast'. The wrist pin is slightly bigger at 22mm but it could be another option although I don't know what compression ratio that would give you.

All LET pistons are mahle i beleive.

I have seen a quite a lot of sets go on mig for 50-80 quid.
Still no where near the price of forged jobbies
