Default 3dr rear bumper - ends sticking out??

Anyone else had this problem? I am refitting a genuine 3 door rear bumper and put new mushroom head fixings in first. Now when it is on the car they stick out either side by nearly a cm??? You can see it here as they should blend in nicely with the arch.

OK - just had to take it all off now really confused!!

The body side receiver clips are correctly in place and the ones in the bumper look right as well. I thought that the mushroom heads might be riding over the top instead of slipping into the receives... but as you can see from the shot take above the whole just looks too deep!!!

Its both sides btw!!

Never noticed the allen head end before, I assume they screw in, maybe they come in different lengths depending on model, I doubt these ones have been changed so may give you a better idea as to length required on the 3dr.

Cheers Mike, on the beer now as that bumper is doing my head in!! I have concluded that the fixings I binned must have been different in some way - wish I'd kept the darn things but they are in the local dump now!!

Appreciate your comment pal

Did you get them off ebay Andy as my rear bumper is missing them and i bought a set off ebay - they look identicle to the ones you test fitted - this may save me some time if you can work out how to get these on flush

Problem solved and understood now. Take a look at my picture and you'll see that where the mushroom 'peg' goes into the bumper the shoulder is about 5 mm deep after it widens. On Paul's it widens but no shoulder. So... cut 5 mm off and its fine. We also filed the shoulder off which I now realised wasn't needed, and drilled a hole to take the metal centre pin rather than sawing it all off. See below if that sound confusing, but basically, there are two types of mushroom peg lads!!!

and job done

I have measured the ones i have and the part from the mushroom to the flat part from the bumper is 23mm the amount fitted into the bumper is 10mm

Are these the same as what you started with Andy?

Yeah from what I can see they look the same to me. There are also two types of inner bumper moulding I now know!!! I'd be interested to see if yours fit OK?

This the smoother type inner without the raised and braced hole for the peg.
