Default Lost keys - don't live in the UK

So I have an 88 Sapphire I bought from the govt. No keys for it.

If I pull the door tumbler will there be a TX number there for the tibbe key?

I have a Scorpio that has keys and I'd switch over the locks but the ignition key needs to be in there to get it out "nicely". Any chance there is a way to get the ignition out without the key? I don't mind killing the ignition as the Scorpio one will fit.

You can strip the lock down and get the key number from the order of the tumblers inside. A dealer will then cut the key to that number for you.

You will probably need to buy one new lock though as there's a plastic clip that holds the lock together, this will probably break when you take the lock apart.

Hope this helps!

you can cut the ignition barrel out with a hacksaw without damaging the housing - just take your time and cut the whole of the front off, behind the chromed front piece

You can also pull the ignition lock out with a slide hammer, as I used to do that when "stealing" them(repo), rarely used to dammge the housing..

Sounds like another car from North Amercian Cosworth Specialist... Pacwest is this the white one? If it is I can contact the previous owner and see if he has any spare keys.

Can you get into the saph? if so remove the doorlock take it to a good locksmith who will cut you a key to suit the lock, you may have to provide I.D.

Is that you Wes? Yeah, it's a NACS car = the white one. Seems that Rakesh sold it to Noman Afridi in 2007.

Paul - car is unlocked and the steering shaft has been loosened off to steer it by the rack knuckle, avoiding the steering lock.

One more point and the actual problem and cause for the thread. Dealers and locksmiths here give you a blank stare when presenting tibbe keys. The only Fords here that used these keys were the Merkur Scorpio and Jaguars. And the Jag keys are different altogether with additional cylinders.

There is always someone in a big city who knows "something" so I will track down a wise locksmith eventually.
