flashing glow plug light, EGR fault??
Hi, until yesterday my 2.0 (2003) TDCI130 MONDEO was running fine, it was a bit smokey under acceleration so fitted a egr blank off plate. It ran much better no smoke either, but today the power has gone as if the turbo has shut down and the glow plug light is flashing and it even cut out once!, I've removed the plate and it's still happening. I removed and cleaned the egr and it seems worse, its the front vacuum type, what have I done to it? Its recently had the cam sensor changed to the grey one. So I know its not that. Cheers for any advice given.

Not got a fault code reader. I would consider buying one but not sure which system I need! OBD/2 or the CAN! can anyone advise me on that too, cheers.

Yeah. I'm getting it on a diagnostics tomorrow. It only started happening once I messed with the egr. And when I cleaned it out it got instantly worse. And I've seen on other threads the link between the flashing light and egr faults. But mine is the vacuum type. I've sucked the pipe and the valve seems to open and close freely. I've seen the price of an egr. They seem to range from Ł50-Ł350!! See what tomorrow eve brings. Thanks.

Bit of an update. I realised there were 2 hose clips half way down my egr to intercooler pipe. Assumed it was a 2 peice pipe. Alas no. Its split and had a bodge of a repair. Basically a tube has been shoved in and clamped up. But there are splits starting from the clamps. Without a doubt I will be replacing the pipe. But is it a possible cause??

It will cause issues if it's leaking, but is highly unlikely to cause 'limp mode'. You would hear an obvious 'whooshing sound' when it came on boost if it was leaking. Definitely swap it even if it's not leaking (because it soon will be), but don't go to Ford - Get a silicone one from eBay. I guarentee it will last longer. The Ford ones can fail within a year.
Also the vac operated EGRs can't flag any fault codes, or bring on limp mode - only the Euro4 electrical ones can.

Hi. Beat me too it. I rang ford. Ł70inc vat. No ta I said. Ordered the silicon one via eBay. Had it on a diagnostic tonight. Threw up fuel blockage between the filter and pump! So new filter going on asap, then back on the diagnostics. Lines all look fine. No kinks hopefully not blocked. Hopefully just a suspect filter.also its saying all four injectors are working correctly. Phew!!! Cheers.

Bit of an update. Had my fuel filter changed tonight. Mechanic seemed to think it wasn't the correct one fitted. New filter in problem seems to be now cured. Fingers crossed.
