Bad connection ie a high resistance somewhere, the reason why it lights the tester but not the r/l is due to the r/l needing more current, you will likely find the r/l does work but only a faint flicker, usual suspect is bad earth.

Does the rear wiper come on when you put it in reverse with the wipers on?
We've got the same problem with ours and suspect it is the switch as the bulb is fine etc and the wiper doesn't come on when engaging reverse.

Sorry folks i'm opening up this old chestnut!

My ST170 reverse lights aren't coming on (bulbs/fuses changed) but my wiper does, which I assume means my reverse switch is fine.

Does this means i'm having the resistance issue (bad connection) as noted above? Any tips appreciated.

Sorted it! I noticed my fog wasnt working either so checked it and it was full of water!
Once I had them both unplugged and off the car I realised how badly corroded the connections were.
After drying out and cleaning up they work a charm.

It was half full! Haha. It must been that way since I've had her which worries me, since the mot 3 months back I've had to change two badly damaged tyres, a perished sump, cambelt at death's door, fix a thermostat leak and they clearly didn't check the lights!

On a different note I'll likely pester you for a bonnet in a few months (when my bank account recovers!) As my paint is not so clever on mine.
