Acceleration and turbo gauge
Just bought my first Focus ST, after waiting years to get one due to family commitments, money etc......it's a 2007 ST3, anyway seems like a dumb question but not sure how to accelerate!?? It's just when I "toe it" the turbo needle reaches close to top bar before I get high RPM's and seems to cut out then build up boost again, is it ok to do this or do I need to change gear before reaching 6 or 7,000 RPMs

Sounds like the boost is dropping off before it reaches the top of the rev range...lots of small turbos do run out of puff.
But it shouldn't cut out, it would just bleed off if not holding boost...I wonder if it is overboosting?
If it doesn't feel right I would get it along to a specialist to check the map on the road or on the dyno.

if the needle is all over the place it could be a number of things. MAF, actuator, boost solenoid.
i would put my money on it being the solenoid, but it would be boosting terribly in general.
Best advice is to get the car to a Ford specialist

Cheers for your responses, spoke to someone at ford where I bought the car and it turns out it is me not being used to the car, he said the turbo won't go past a certain point in 1st as a safety to stop the engine f****ng up, once in 2nd your away!!

That doesn't sound like your problem, surely the gauge would get to a lower level and stay there, not drop back to zero.

I'll be keeping an eye on it but to be honest I think it's just me getting used to the car, I've just been out in it and it took off after a quick change out of 1st. Hard to really constantly watch turbo gauge and watch road, I've got car booked in in a couple of weeks so I'll keep an eye on it

This is why I said take it a specialist. Ford don't know what they're on about
