Depends which Focus Rs your talking about! MK1 read below:
Yes the standard ECU can be mapped, i know Motorsports Development have done a couple. I believe a live map from them starts at about £500
Bluefin is the name for the handheld device Superchips currently sell, you get the unit plug it in and load the map and its done believe the cost of this is around £300. this is available for mk1 and mk2 RS's
Other companies do maps for the Rs as well, Dreamscience are good but Pete at Demon Performance Centre: http://www.demonperformancecentre.co.uk/ can also do remaps and most mk 1 FRS owners take their cars to him he does mk2's as well though, great prices and great knowledge and doesnt rip you off.
Mk2 FRS have alot more plug and play style remaps: Revo, Code Red, Mountune, JR racing, Jamsport, Sitech, thats just to name a few sure there are loads more!
Aftermarket ECU is not something ive looked at unfortunatly so couldnt give any advise on this!

well what are your plans for it mate? if its just basic stuff, airfilter, actuator, dumpvalve, exhaust i wouldnt bother with a remap id put it on dreamscience remove the amal valve run it direct with boost set to about 22psi and youve got a great usable power! you can add a hybrid and a tubular manifold and it will be even better.

Rereading what i wrote what i meant to say was why bother with a livemap, yeah you can spend £500 plus on a live map but a dreamscience unit for about half that will do just fine, im running over 300bhp and got everything i listed above!

is your dreamscience unit a generic map then?
not sure a live map would be as much as £500 to be honest as you'd be starting from a decent map anyway but without calling the tuners i wouldn't know for sure.
does the dreamscience plug straight into the focus loom?

The DS is a generic map and so the likes of the BF and all the other units mentioned...
The problem with the generic maps are that they overfuel heavily! This can result in poor economy and a loss of power (as you probably know)...however, they are a GREAT method for cheap upgrade and hike in power and its what most people use with great success!
I normally say anything up to around the 320-330hp, use the DS or BF, anything above, personally I would get it live mapped from MSD as I will be doing myself.
MSD are also able to map for bigger injectors and will be able to push the MAF sensor as far as it will possibly go!
Alot of people who claim they can map the FRS management, map through a DS unit! I know MSD actually map onto the ECU itself and retain all OEM features
Fingers crossed mine will be making its way up to MSD after my inlet, cams and rods are done...ill only be able to comment on how good the custom maps are once thats done.
But I can happily compare the DS and BF as I have both units sat here lol

i wasnt aware this could be done?
so you remap the origional unit? or you talking unchip or somthing???
if you can live map the for ecu, i suggest you get onto RSOC in the focus section and get them told cause theres always debates on which is best map to go for, (blufin/dreamscience etc)
but if u can live map them, you will get SHED loads of busines

There is no other way to live map. The RSOC boys are quite aware that we do this, we have been doing it since the car was 9 months old.

Bumping this thread as i have a simialr question.
I currently have a mk1 focus 2.0 zetec. Ive just bought a focus rs engine for a conversion. What is the best way to get this running? Can the 2.0 zetec ecu be mapped to suit the focus rs engine? Or do i need the focus rs ecu to start with?
did he change his wiring loom etc or did he drop his frs engine and had his original focus efc remapped?
