not being rude mate but most wiring on rsts is like that and as for the first pics i think all rsts are like that as the water drains from the drivers side vent and causes that over the years and the rest of the pics well their is rust but maybe you can get it sorted out if your goin to keep the car but can be a real knightmare

well, without wanting to whip up (i only registered 10 mins ago, dont want to upset anyone) my s2 has no rust whatsoever, looked everywhere and the wiring is not like that. BUT, mine cost 4k!. so its prob not a good comparison as i dont know what it cost u?. how much are rs2000s worth?

Just in case you dont know. I have never seen this car in the flesh and have never worked on it!

As for giving advise when asked for it, that is another subject as i go out of my way to help some people!

Now the pictures you have taken show rust and wiring that has been joined.

If you had 10 mins you could get yourself a solder iron, heat shrink, and fix the problem with the wiring (if there is one)

Also the rust can be delt with if you take it to a local garage. IT IS OVER 15 YEARS OLD! I would guess that a big % of ERST have the same rust.

Hi mate saw your rst in the other post and looks clean yes you are right most rsts that cost 4k dont have messed up wiring but most rsts these days that are in average condition always have problems and dont forget even the youngest rst is now nearly 15 years old so they are bound to be messed up somewhere and also jayrs2000 you need to think hard if your rs2k was worth alot more than the rst you have now and if not just call it quits mate. Just think how much you could have sold your rs2k for and how much you would have bought your current rst for.

^^^ thats true mate, the rsts i saw for 2.5-3k had probs with rust and other areas. i paid over the odds to get a pretty good one.

He got a good deal on the RS2K mate as I've seen them selling for less than a grand.
And as my mate is a sales man for ford he reckons the RSturbo will allways hold some decent value!

i drove to junction 5 on the m5 to meet sean to swop the cars i did have a look at the rs and yes to be fair was gleming but as not being a mechanic i didnt know what to look for ?? u never made any effert to point ANY of the problems it had out mate ?? and u know i didnt have a good idea what to look for !! as i did comment before if i remeber u were revng it to stop it staling ???? when reversing ?

as many peaple on hear will tell u sean when sumone goes that far to see a car they have made there mind up ! excitement took over only when i got home after brecking down twice mate i started to fink !! once was indeed due to no juice dodgey gauge and the next was the dissy playing up !

i can imagine how u feel though jay, the amount of times i've seen a gleaming car and said yes to buying it i've lost count, i've been lucky but now i always look everywhere, especially the floor and under bonnet....and boot....and everywhere with old fords. just assume they are all rotten until u have proof otherwise. but as said b4, no point me saying this to u, im sure its not what u want to hear, just trying to help, but i doubt i am...

Looks like someone's been stung, i've had RS turbo's since 93,
and seen some dog's IF YOU KNOW what to look for, the photos
if clearer would say more but by them it does look rough, every body
has their own std of a good car condition, if you know what your looking at then its easy to give a opinion, and the value is in the shell, you can always replace the mechanicals easier and cheaper than the body.
let this be a lesson to you, Mine i've just restored and some would of
scrapped it, while others would of thought good condition that,
each to there own trade.

To be fair M8 if you aint sure what to look for when buying something like this then you should take someone you know along who dose. Its Nothing to be ashamed of as there are lots of areas on these things that need checked out. Generally price reflects condition and if its cheap then expect SOME work.

To be honest with you it dosent look that bad for an escort, i have seen much worse. I know its a pi$$er when you travel to get a car and it turns out to be not what you expected but as said above these things are knocking on for 15yrs old now.

Stick it into your local garage and get them to weld it up and get the thing dripping with waxoil, that should keep the dreaded rust bug at bay.

Dont be put off with it just look at it as an excuse to improve the car and bring it up to your standards.

Remember dont be afraid to ask as there is always someone willing to help out. If you wernt so far away id offer to do the welding for you.

Have just bought a Black S2 and the body is worse than yours with afew car park dents in it thing is though it's totaly standard.
Reason for buying it's a project.
So I'm prepared to shell out on it!

im sorry to hear your not happy with your new car jay but people have got a point, u should have given it a proper look over. my series2 which i recently bought has bodywork problems. theres big panel gap on the doors and the boot floor has been rippled at some point but im not blaming who i bought it off, i put it down to fact i ddnt look over it enuf and wasnt fussy enuf

i looked at six rs turbos before getting mine, i took a jack and a mechanic to see every one. the turbo i ended up with was far better than any of the others but it still had small probs, but the car is 19 years. all of the the probs with ures jay are routine mantinance items
