Default Do I need to change my std fuel pump for a stage 2 EFI ERST?

Hello,

I’ve just mounted an stage 2 (195+ superchip OFAC and beiges) on my EFI converted ERST and the car is running with 11.60 psi and pikes till 14.50 psi. When I tested the car in the motorway I noticed that at high revs the engine failed slightly when the throttle was fully opened.

I think that I have a correct reading of the fuel pressure (3.5 bar, 50.76psi) but I think there is not enough fuel flow. I have the std fuel pump and it is too noisy.

Could be a problem with the fuel pump? I was considering in remove it and buy sierra cosworth’s one.

Any advice would we really appreciated.

Cheers.

MFI RST Fuel pump will flow for 350bhp+ if it's in good condition.
Check you have alternator voltage at the pump, this is a common problem with old wiring.

So how come a lot of people upgrade to cosworth pumps then ?

I'm pretty sure mine is a standard pump and was thinking of getting a Bosch 044 but if standard pumps are good for that power I guess I'll leave it

That's because the word "Cosworth" makes 5 extra hp.

MFI and EFI are totally different systems. MFI fuel pumps have to work with higher pressure and more fuel/minute. They do the job of about two efi pumps. Not quite sure about the 350+ hp but standard ERST fuel pump in good condition should be enough to fuel 99% of the 1.6 CVH FRST engines.

People upgrade because they can, not always because they need to... Yes it will be fine mate, I was running around that (32psi on a .48/60 T3) and then continued to use the same pump when I dropped the 2.0 ZT lump in and ran the turbo to it's limits (24psi), no problems with fuelling what so ever
