s1 with no spark
was looking at a s1 tonight, winging over but no spark. ahs power to the coil but seemed to be no earth from the green wires. probed back to where the came out the fuse box and had an earth and then in several places to just before the coil plug then nothing, no earth anywhere id probbed.
how can you loose an earth? is there a control unit? tried winding it over etc but it never came back??
any ideas?

them green wires are very exposed as they go along the front of the car and can get chopped through easily ! dizzy is another prime target, is the fuel pump running?

the green wires go from the coil in the loom but popping out here and there, they loose from the loom if you like but go through the main grommet going into the underside of the fuse box if that makes sense?

Karlos is correct. The coil is not permanently earthed on the green wire. The silver ECU switches the earth on and off at high speed.
If the green wire is to earth then it has shorted out to chassis somewhere. 1 of the green wires goes from the coil to the rev counter/fuel pump relay and the other goes from the coil to the silver ECU (think it was pin 25).
