New fuel hose... aeroquip? or alternatives?
Im planning on resurrecting my RST, its been tucked up in the garage for a year now and its time to get it back on the road and have some fun.
When i built it i used rubber cotton braided fuel hose as it looked fairly smart, however after numerous fuel leaks i need to sort it out properly.
Question is, do i go aeroquip/goodridge braided fuel lines? or just get some good quality rubber fuel line?
Also, I would quite like to keep the metal fuel lines that run under the car as standard, is there a compression fitting or similar designed to work with metal lines and the braided line? Or should I just pay for another 3/4 meters of hose..... (its not cheap gear is it!)
What do folks do with the fuel reg, just use a jubilee clip or is there an alternative for use with a proper union?
Last question (for now!) how much have people spent on this? All the fittings from the fuel pump to the fuel reg/rail...
Cheers

my fuel reg is on with a jubilee (presume we are talking about the return)
Then I use a mk6 escort feed and had a braided hose made up to connect to my filter, cost around £14 at local hydraulics outfit.
Does what it needs to, could look better, but I can't see it when driving, plus the pile of crap is always on axel stands

Good stuff cheers for that mate, I think I owe you a PM too dude!
Im hoping they do an aeroquip 90deg fitting that will attach straight to the fuel rail... then maybe an after market pressure reg (but a decent one) with the appropriate connections Never done any of this before so all the catalogues with various fittings looks totally random to me!

Im cutting the fitting off the fuel rail and welding a -6 jic fitting on.....beware though ive just got all the hose i require in the new Goodridge G-Line stuff with ptfe smooth bore pipe and with a load of forged fittings its well over 500 quids worth of tackle, nice pressure reg and ill be near 700 on just fuel stuff!!! Its bloody 4 quid per 100mm for the pipe and ive got 10 meters lol!!!
Worth it in the long run

I think the hose from the filter to fuel rail cost me £25.
On the exit port of the filter I also have a spurred banjo bolt (from Burton power) to provide a takeoff for my fuel pressure gauge.

the fittings all seem to be hideously expensive! theres no middle ground, just top of the line kit, or nothing
iv done my fuel system with new genuine ford hoses at the tank end of the car, the standard metal undercar fuel lines, and then just some decent quality rubber hose from there to the accumulator, the standard plastic lines from there on, and a rubber fuel hose made up for the return to the metal lines, for fittings on to the accumulator and the return, i butchered the old standard plastic lines, removed the metal fittings, and jubilee clipped my rubber fuel hose to this. looks neat enough, and nice n cheap too!
im not a cheapskate by any means, my full brake system is done in braided and stainless fittings. but the cost to do similar for the fuel system was stupidly more expensive!

Yes according to the specs I've found for the stock RS Turbo fuel filter the outlet is M12x1.5mm. I was pondering over where to fit my gauge for a while and I was browsing burton power for something else at the time when I stumbled across this. Very handy as the tee piece I have with my gauge takes M10x1mm tails.

I have a lean warning light so any drop in FP and I'll know before a meltdown happens.

I could swear I bought one of those when restoring my car! It'll be at the back of one of my man draws.....
I think there was a problem with it though, length wise.... don't know if it was long enough to go from the fuel rail to the fuel filter..... where is your filter mounted?

I don't think its a low fuel pressure light, more likely a lean AFR light that works off an output on his ecu... I could be wrong though! thats just how I would do it.
Rob,

If kpa is greater than 150 (7psi) and the AFR is leaner than 12.5:1 then it iluminates (using the old ABS light on the dash), I've set it like that so it flicks on briefly when boost is building (12.5:1 @ 7psi is not actualy too lean) so I know it's still working.... No point having a warning light that doesnt work cos the bulbs blown or has a wiring fault! lol

I used -6 hose throughout the bay on mine, chopped the 2 metal pipes off just under the bulhead and used 2 jubilee clips on each one to secure the quip onto the old pipes which worked fine.
Fuel regulator i also just jubilee clipped as it's not really seen....i had a -6 union welded onto the fuel rail though and bought a tight 90 degree bend for that and used a sytec fuel filter with straight aeroquip unions. Did end up costing a fair old whack for what it was but looks soo good !!
I bought all mine from 'merlin motorsport' as they're just up the road from me and keep loads in stock!
You can just see the fitting on the fuel rail and the filter on the rhs obviously...

Im currently speaking to him about getting some hoses made up myself... Seems really helpful and has good reviews!
