mtx75 - stronger
ib5 - easier

Ib5 will be fine for 200bhp

Thats quite dear IMO, Ive done one for around Ł150 before
Ł50-gearbox + shafts + speedo drive + clutch cable and gearlinkage
Ł100-clutch
modified mk5 shafts myself
made my own mounts
made my own gearlinkage and all other ancillaries
MTX is def the best bet in terms of reliability, clutch size (240mm instead of a pishy 220mm) and gear ratios are much better in MTX

PLUS, its being fitted to a mk5 escort

So wouldn't need modified shafts etc, mounts should already be there/available, might have to play around and make a mount up to use the equal length shaft bearing...?

What hubs and shafts are you using at the moment Jimbo?

Ah, never read that, In that case iys easy! nuts and bolts! Wouldnt even consider the BC box rubbish four speed that had fifth gear retrofitted OUTSIDE the box dodgy diff bearings, crap layshaft bearings, soft small gears

Where do you get your prices from i want to shop there. lol. Ł100 for a clutch to take over 200bhp. You cant buy a secondhand clutch for that money that would work.

I'd love to rob, tell you what, next show come see my car and if a mtx will go in I might do it if I'm keepingit

I know it makes sense, but for me I'd like a diff in it, so 600,100 for the box, flywheel and clutch to suit cvh?? It would be the best part of a grand

My hubs and shafts are 1.4 escort ones!

just a thought would the mtx 75 box out of the cougar/st200/st24 work the starters at the top and main body faces away from the fly, with cable shifting, but hydro clutch and they will take 200bhp and C&G motorsport do an uprated clutch for the st 200 for about Ł160 or is that the same box as focus/st170?

Dont need a paddle clutch for 200bhp (see below) and atb can be had for Ł450, but is not essential.

A std 240mm mondeo clutch will take 200bhp (mine took 214lb ft and 204 bhp no probs, and it was second hand)

Ive use a 2 litre mandildo one twice, and a frs one once all 240mm not 220mm like the bc/ib5 ones (shirt buttons) People rant and rave about big brakes, but never say much when you say you have a big clutch, both are frictional devices and work on the same principals.

V6 MTX will not fit four cylinder. All mtxs will take over 300bhp in std form all day long, Get one from a mk5 escort with cable clutch and rod shift.

Does 20mm really make that much difference on a 220mm clutch?
The 20mm from 240mm XR3i Brakes to RS Turbo 260mm Brakes makes a fair bit guess and then onto 278/283mm Cossie ones.

Don't need a paddle clutch and massive left leg either i guess lol!

Why bother running an mtx with a standard diff?? No point in changing from the LSD bc box as it would just spin one wheel?

Cheapest diff I found was Ł500 with no bearings and that was not including vat? I

I don't think there s any point running an mtx for 200bhp the bc would cope fine IMO

you do the maths on the increase in surface area, dont forget that the friction discs are wider too. The thing with a clutch is that it either holds or doesnt, brakes will always work, but obviously will fade quicker if smaller.

Rough surface area of a 220mm clutch is 267cm^2
Rough surface area of a 240mm clutch is 339cm^2

most rst boxes have no lsd these days anyway, and the ones that do are knackered your prob right, just keep replacing the std bc box every few months at 200bhp, it will be fine

Yes it is. And assuming the centre is 120mm (no idea if it is or not, but the difference will be the same).

PS my maths was wrong, i just used the diameter not the radius lol

Edited now!

For 200 bhp i still think an ib5 is man enough for the job, time will tell with mine anyhow! but if your up for it an mtx75 is the obvious winner.

Rob,

thought of the mtx75 for mine ,have used the ib5 box from escort mk5 1.8 zetec just had to swop bolts around on rear of box for s1 mounting . back to s1 bc box now but will prob top out 125 mph and sound like its in 4th at 80mph flat out on motor way lol . 4.27 final drive for ya lol , wonder if any one sells brackets , shafts , and mounts in kit form for the average guy doing diy job at a good price . some one could make a mint !
