Default ppm hydrocarbons

hey all not bin on here for a while got a teeny problem with a 88 mfi escort, its had a misfire fault for ages and finally managed to sort it but the ppm is still to high ive setup the co and fuel pressure but still in 4 digits, what psi should the fuel pressure be on idle (850/900) rpm, and also it wont start with a d/v on it so any1 think the vacume could be faulty/ perrished pipe

sounds like it needs a setup by someone who knows what they are doing.

co should be around 3-4% depending on spec.
ppm should match the co as a rule. So if you have 3% fuel expect 300Hc's If any less this indicates nice tight engine.

CO should be 1.5% +/- 0.5% for a standard compression engine. Low compression I'd expect between 2.2% and 3% depending on how low it is. The legal limit is 3.5% CO and 1000ppm hydrocarbons. You can have a high hydrocarbon reading if it is running too lean, or too rich.

loads of people have had a look at this car, ive got it down to 3% and 700/850 ppm but soon as ya touch the throttle it goes up to 3k then settles at 1500ppm, and ya can smell the fuel, ive checked and tested everything and its all ok apart from the ecu and the head i.e cam, valves

had 2 metering units on it both the same problem, its got a slight misfire on cylinder 2, and the boost gauge has a slight flicker which looks like a vacume leak, and i know the fuel pressure regulator run off vacume pressure, but not sure why it only cylinder 2 which makes it misfire, i was thinking either the luggs on the cam are worn or a sticky valve, ive ajusted the fuel to 6 1/4 turns on the black box on side of metering unit, 1 of the blokes i worked with built the engine so im only trusting him on the mechanical side of it, any ideas would be very greatful as it getting to me

I was thinking about the cam as I read that. I assume it's had plugs, leads, cap and rotor arm then?

I have had auxilliary air devices cause high idle speeds when they loose live or earth due to bad wiring.

Whats the timing set to? It's not over advanced is it and just needs the idle screw turning down?

The other thing I can think of is leaking cold start valve or injectors.

we blocked off the cold start injector with a nut and bolt and no difference, the ig timing slightly advanced but the idle screw is set to 850rpm, ive not checked the loom properly i took of the plugs and the brown 1 at the back of inlet(boost i think?) fel apart in my hand which i had to replace, so could be bad earth but i thought that would make the whole car misfire, i think ill have to use a vernier to check the luggs on the cam, cos as we all know turbo cams are made from jelly, the only thing im unsure about is how much the ecu controls the fuel as its mfi
