Default Clutch/gearbox issues...

Having some hassle with my Estate...
I ran an RST box and various other BC boxes no problem with a AP Racing paddle clutch.
Heavy and with a low bite, but perfectly drivable.

When the most recent box failed it was replaced with an IB5 box from an RS1800.
From the word go the clutch operation hasn't been right though as the bite point is effectively lower then the furthest point of the pedals travel.

Clutch quadrant was the first suspect, but it was replaced today with no change.
Everything seems fine, but there's just not enough clutch travel! Any ideas?

Spec:
Mk4 Escort Estate
ST170 2.0 Zetec on Weber Alpha throttle bodies
IB5 box
AP Racing 220mm Clutch
Standard quadrant and cable

you could try the mk5 escort pedal mod it has an allen key bolt that allows adjustment of the biting point, i think you are meant to do this with some ap clutches anyway, the mod itself is covered on ap's website

I've been led to believe this mod doesn't actually cure the issue I've got?
But instead is just to avoid dealing with broken plastic quadrants...

the mk5 mod still uses a plastic quadrant tho?! it just allows you to set the biting point as it is known to be low on some ap's

The release bearing on the Ib5 box is different did you change it?

It does cure the issue, and is indeed plastic! The MK5 quadrant is bigger and so allows for more travel on the cable, in addition the pedal height is adjustable and as a result the biting point.

Tried that but on my car it was too much.

The BC one is smaller so wont fit in an IB5

but the changeover year does.

the normal BC bearing wont fit over the IB5 mainshaft and the IB5 bearing wont fit onto the BC fork.
